I have quite a few job status' from Steward Health Care System that say "Our recruitment team has reviewed your application and you are being actively considered, along with other candidates, for the position. We will be in contact with you shortly should we wish to interview you. Unfortunately, we cannot accept phone calls about job opportunities.". Is this a good sign, or a default? I am hoping it means that my resume made it past HR and to the hiring nurse on the floor. Thoughts? Did any of you have this status? Outcomes? I have ben trying to get into L&D/postpartum care since I graduated in May 2013. I was working in a pediatric office for about 6 months before my family relocated to Boston. I now work at a pediatric office doing triage in Brookline MA, on Tuesday and Thursday...but I am still actively trying to get ino L&D/postpartum. I am also a lactation counselor (have been for 16 months), and I took an electronic fetal monitoring course through AWHONN. Any tips would be great :)

You made it through the initial "weeding out" from HR. Your app has been sent on to the hiring manager. Then they narrow the list down to the ones they want to interview. I have had several of those that never got to interview stage. The job I did get was "fast tracked" by the HR dept. I got an email that the nurse recruiter wanted to have a phone interview a few days after I submitted my app. Within a few days I had a phone interview with the nurse recruiter. She then passed my app up to hiring manager and had a 9 minute phone interview with her within a week. She then set up an in-person interview a week later. I got hired 4 days later. From application to hire in 3 weeks, compared to other applications that sit for weeks with an unchanged status.

So, not very promising? This process is draining the life out of me! I want this so badly. Any tips on how to get to the interview process? I know that if I just got a chance I would be a great L&D/postpartum nurse!! I have been calling hospitals to speak to HR an to speak to the actual hiring nurses...no luck so far.

Unfortunately they seem to work at a snail's pace. Calling HR will get you nowhere. They don't have time to answer every applicant's questions about their application. I know how you feel and had the same experience of apply and wait for weeks for a change of status on my applications, only to have them reject me or pass my app. onto the hiring manager and never get an interview when I was applying to jobs in Indy. I switched focus and applied to jobs in Louisville and that is when I entered an alternate universe. The nurse recruiter acted like she had a bunch of jobs for me, it was just a matter of which one interested me the most. When I did interview it seemed as if they were trying to convince me to work at the hospital and the unit instead of me trying to convince them to hire me.

I got the name of the recruiter from a friend and emailed her personally. It helped. You definitely got past the first phase. You need to find a unit where they like to have new grads or nurses who are new to the field. Some managers are open to that. Good luck.

Unfortunately you have to wait, which is the hard part. Some people got hired onto my unit (Postpartum) by calling or emailing the nurse manager directly.

Some hospitals are strict in that managers don't want to be bothered with a phone call, instead they want you to go through the process of applying online.

Good luck!

Do you mind me asking where you work? I have actually been trying to do research on each hospital I apply to, and find the nurse managers. i have found some through linkedin and sent them messages there. Sometimes I just call the floor and ask for thr manager (doesn't always work!). Any other tips? I want this so badly!! Thanks

I don't post that info openly on the forums. It's definitely a long ways from New Hampshire. I can PM you if you would like?

Sorry. I tried to send you a PM first, but it says you exceeded your storage of private messages :)

AN needs to extend that because I only had 8 messages. I deleted them all.

Don't go back and contact HR. I've had messages like that. Many times it will stay in that status for months. At other times, I've been called to interview. It's a good sign because they think you are minimally qualified for the job. Now it's up to the nurse manager (s) to signal to HR that they are interested in you. If you have a friend who works on the unit now is the time for her to bug the manager on your behalf.
