Quinnipiac ABSN 2020

Published

Hello all! The application cycle is open and I wanted to start a thread for anyone applying so I can stop re-reading previous years threads, haha. My application is pretty much finished but I'm waiting for this semester to end so I can add my A&P II grade to the app. How is everyone doing with their apps? Also, any previous or current students input would be great :-). Good luck everyone!

I just called and they said I should be “hearing about a decision of my admission status within the next few days.” ??‍♀️

Online portal was updated. I didn’t make it but good luck to everyone else. I completed a pre-med degree no problem and work in emergency medicine but can’t get into nursing school to save my life ? wishing I didn’t change my goals half way through LOL.

So sorry!! My portal hasn't changed yet, but I am thinking this will be my case too because I kept changing throughout college. Would you mind sharing prereqs?

My portal hasn’t changed either.. I’m sorry to hear the news Kylo. Change is good, it gets you to where you need to be, eventually!..(I’m sure I'm a little older than you). Goodluck in the future! Keep going.. healthcare is so rewarding!

@abcnursing stats A Micro A- A&P B and B- and I have experience as an emt and working in the hospital. My degree was premed. I started at 17 and didn’t do well my first year but had almost a 4.0 my last two years. My overall GPA was 3.2 because of my first year which I think took a toll on getting into school. Unfortunately my credits will be too old after this year so I won’t be able to apply again. My goal was midwifery when I was originally on track for OB. Midwife is now out of the question for me.

@Kylo are you native to CT? Have you looked into the direct entry NP programs? They actually have no prereqs besides a bachelors. Of course, the standard prereqs on your transcript would be a plus (but expired classes are no need to sweat ?). There is a midwifery program at Yale and from my interactions with the admitted CNM students - becoming a doula is a HUGE factor for consideration. All of your other information makes your sound like an outstanding candidate so I would recommend you become a doula and start plugging away for Fall 2021 cohort application cycle (it's exhausting). The program is 3 years long - 11 months intense RN training (only a certificate so you need to continue on to MSN portion) followed by 2 years in your masters specialty, then you come out an APRN. Good luck in whatever you decide to do, but please do not let expired prereqs be what holds you back. If you have any questions about the direct entry route I'd be glad to help.

Also, to anyone not accepted and are thinking of broadening their options I would be happy to help if you consider a GEPN program.

Thank you! Yale is the only one I know of for midwifery but I have to take the gre to apply. Their applications open in June so I may try that and hope for the best. I was actually looking into a doula course too and I found one in May.. so I think I’m going to do that either way and it can be a backup plan for now if I can’t get into Yale’s program. Are there others like that in Ct that you know of? It’s funny because I can deliver a baby at my current job but I can’t ONLY deliver babies ??‍♀️

Hi @kc_FNPtobe .. I agree with you.. @Kylo you’re so qualified! @kc_FNPtobe..Thank you so much for the insight! I am still waiting to hear back from QU. My plan is if I get in, is to continue on to the APRN track. It’s my dream to be an advanced practioner. I didn’t even know these types of programs existed! I am definitely going to look in to this! What other schools offer this program that you’re aware of?

Thank you in advance?!!

Hi Everyone, I also got a status update..I didn't get into the program. I am presently in a traditional Nursing program with 4 more semesters to graduate in Spring 2022. The school is far for me , I drive 2hours to get to Brooklyn, I commute from Danbury ct. I hope I would be able to transfer to a school nearby. Thanks for the information on the GEPN, I wish I knew about it earlier...

Goodluck

@Kylo I wasn't sure if any of the others had CNM. I'm glad you were already looking into doula, that means you're on the right track and you know what you need to do. There are no others in CT and it's pretty much only the Ivy's that have them. I live in Waterford, CT so I will be commuting to Orange every day (that is where Yale's nursing campus is), yuck. The campus is beautiful though, it is much like Quinnipiac's health building.

PLEASE do not let the GRE hold you back.... I will not post my GRE stats, but you can email me and I'll give you all the info ([email protected]). It was atrocious, but I still got in.

@The_love_of_nursing4 you have the same plan as me. I originally set out and re-did my expired prereqs all for QUs program with the intention of continuing on to the NP track as soon as possible. It was not until July that I realized the GEPN program existed and figured why not? Off the top of my head it's mostly the ivy's that offer this track: Yale, Penn, Columbia, Vanderbilt, UCSF, Northeastern, UMass... that's all I can think of.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions.
