Hi Megan,
I graduated Quincy LPN in June 2006 and am working LTC. Massachusetts LPN's do not get hired in hospitals. I did the LPN program and immediately applied and was accepted to Excelsior distance bridge program LPN to RN. This may work for you as well because of your previous college work. I had a BS in another field.
I attended clinicals at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, John Scott Nursing Home in Braintree and Radius LTC for disabled children in Plymouth. I live in Middleboro so this worked for me. Other clinicals were in South Boston, Quincy, and the Jamaica Plain VA hospital.
I would suggest that you get a NCLEX-PN book at Border's or Barnes and Noble (Saunders is the best) You will use this to study extensively and it is a preview of the exams you will have at Quincy. Get some index cards and start make drug cards based on what are the most common meds in the Saunders book, include generics, mode of action, adverse side effects and most importantly NURSING considerations.
PM me with your questions if you want more info. Good luck.
Hey Kim,
I'm going full time but maybe we'll be in some of the same classes?
i have no idea if we can take classes at Plymouth but I hope so.... it would be pretty helpful to me! I haven't received anything else in the mail since the acceptance letter so I really have no idea whats going on.... I'm just getting anxious!!
Hi Megan!!!
My name is Missy and I am starting the full-time in Sept as well! I would love to meet some people taking the class before I start. That would be great. I have orientation on June 4th. Are you going to that one, or did you go to the one that was today? I am very excited myself. I am a CNA currently and finally decided to take the next step. I am married and have three kids. I hope to talk to you soon!

Hi Missy! I went to the orientation that was yesterday.... it was pretty easy, you just go over the schedules and registration stuff and then order uniforms. The first semester seems like quite a workload but we'll be all done by next June so thats whats motivating me!! how old are your kids? I have a three and a half year old myself! i have no idea what i'll do with him while i'm in school but i'll work it out :) good luck next week!!
Oh that's great! I cannot wait until orientation. I want to know the hours we will be in. I have a day care voucher for my kids, so they will be set in the fall, thankfully. I am so excited about starting school! My daughter will be 9 in Sept, my older son just turned 4 (so about the same age as yours) and my youngest son in 2. What was the registration stuff? Does the first semester look like a work load? That's ok! I think we will be fine, and yes, it is great that it's only until June:) Talk to you soon!
Missy
My orientation was fine, except that I had trouble finding the building LOL. (I'm not from the Quincy area). I don't know what town you are in, but there is a program based in Quincy that covers a lot of towns in the South Shore area called Community Care for Kids. You can call them and try to get a voucher if you are in a town they cover. There is also a program called Head Start that has an all day program in a lot of towns that is a great program to look into. My 4 year old was in Head Start for a few months and I was very happy with it. HTH! I am getting so excited! I am waiting to hear the verdit on my financial aid...I dont want to have to get a huge student loan!! Talk to you soon!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm new here and I'm starting the LPN program at Quincy College in September. I have no idea what to expect! Is anyone else doing this program? I'd love to meet people beforehand..... it's a little more comforting than going at it alone!! lol I spent 3 years working on a fine arts/photography degree, then took a break to get married and have a baby.... then last summer I made the decision to completely change my mind because nursing is such a good field to get into. I'm really excited and anxious! Has anyone done this program and could tell me what to expect? when do we get schedules and all that? Where are the clinicals? any information would be great!! i hope i can meet some of my fellow students on here!!
