Questions

Hi,

I am starting a CNA class on Monday, and am kinda worried after I pass my test and all, because I have a hard time emptying bedside commodes and do have a weak stomach, how do some of you deal with things that make you feel sick?

you get used to it after a while. Hold your breath while you are handling the bed pan.

I always kept a few Altoids in my pocket and would suck on one whenever I had a particularly oderous job in front of me. The strong menthol would drown out most of the odor. Good luck!

Thanks, will definately keep that in mind.

I would try to do the "gross" things as fast as I could, to get them out of the way & I'd hold my breath so I wouldn't have to smell anything bad! :) Then I'd tell myself that soon enough I would get to see really cool things in nursing as a student and now as a nurse. That always motivated me. :) Good luck with your test!

My nursing instructor told us her secret:travel size Vicks vapor rub. I bought one too, and I use it a lot. You can just put a little under your nose, and nobody knows about it, but the best thing is: You just can not smell anything!:)

And as counter-intuitive as it seems, don't go in on an empty stomach.
