Questions on prioritze tasks

Published

Hi all, I just started to prepare my nclex and have been doing some questions on Pearson. My biggest problem is to prioritize tasks. :( I am not sure why after I read the review book, I still don't understand why a patient is waiting to be discharged will be a higher priority for assigning task than ambulate a patient who is 2 days out of surgery. Another question that I have problem is that I don't understand why prepare for an elective surgery will take priority over ambulating a patient a day after surgery.

Thank you for your help :) if you wouldn't mind explain them for me. the rationale on the book don't have answers for it.

because both a patient awaiting discharge and a patient awaiting surgery regardless of it being elective need teaching. Teaching is priority to a RN. at least in VA only RNs can teach LPNs can go back and reinforce the teaching only the the RN can do the initial teaching. Discharging a patient involves a lot of teaching and a patient awaiting surgery will require teaching along with preop checklist that will need to be completed.

Ambulating a patient while important is something that can be handed off to a CNA or tech on the floor if available, and if not it is put on the back burner to the other two tasks.

Thank you for your help. Now, I understand the reason. Your explanation makes perfect sense.

awesome! I'm glad I could help. good luck on your nclex. I dont know if they offer it in your area but I did the hurst review it is amazing.
