I graduated from GPC in 06 and you don't get to pick your specialty for clinicals. You do a basic fundamentals rotation, a med surg rotation, a short mother baby and OB rotation (i got to be in on one delivery and one c section) a psych rotation and an advanced nursing rotation (usually some sort of med surg floor). People who have gone to GPC more recently might be able to chime in on any new changes.
Honestly it was a really hard program with a high failure rate. I graduated but only 22 of our original starting class of 140 graduated. That being said, I have heard they have revamped the program due to the high failure rate and numerous complaints to the Ga Board of Nurs. and it's much more doable now. I think it's probably a lot more reasonable now. Lots of GPC students come to my hospital for clinicals and they're passing.
Clinical's include 1st semester Fundamentals rotation; 2nd semester Med-Surg rotation; 3rd semester is broken down into 3 mini (5 week each) mesters of Psych, PEDS, and Mother-Baby with 2 weeks of clinical rotation in each section. The last semester (YEAH..............LIGHT AT THE END OF A LONG DARK TUNNEL!!) clinicals is 5 weeks advanced Med-Surg and another 5 weeks one on one with a preceptor. I hope that helps.
I am a student and in the 3rd semester. It is very hard but I have never heard anyone say Nursing school is easy. You have to be organized and work hard and love what you do. I also would recommend trying not to work-if you can swing it while you are in the program. The new Department Chair is awesome. I would highly suggest one of the info sessions that they give once a month, they are very helpful.
My pre-reqs were 3.67 with a science pre-req of around 3.0. I did work through my pre-reqs but quit my full time job right before starting the nursing program. I am also in my 3rd semester at GPC now and I agree cornpooh that you should try your best not to work especially during the first semester. It is very busy. I do know some that have taken on weekend jobs but most waited until the 2nd or 3rd semesters to do this. It took me about 1 1/2 years to complete all my pre-reqs but I was only taking like 2 at a time because I worked full-time. I did also complete all of them before entering the program. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I hope this little chirp-in helps.

Has anyone gone to Georgia Perimeter college for nursing? If so what are the clinicals like? And do I have to have a clinical and every field of nursing or just the specialty I choose? I'm moslty interested in OB and womens healt and things of that nature and not too curious about the others.
