Questions on best route to go

Published

I would really appreciate some feed back. I am a male who graduated in 2011 with a B.S. in Hospitality management at UCF (central Florida). I have discovered that hospitality is definitely not the field I want to be in and I'm thinking of going back to finish Pre-Reqs for nursing school. The problem is I went through a lot of personal stuff my freshman year of college and I ended up graduating with a 2.98 GPA. I have about 7 Pre-Req's to take so I could bring it up over a 3.0 and I plan on getting A's on all of them.

I have seen threads on here with people worrying about 3.7's not being competitive. Do I have a chance at all in getting into a nursing school if I manage to do good on the TEAS?

Would becoming a medical assistant and then going into nursing from there be easier?

Thanks again for all your help!

There's no ladder than goes from MA to nursing. They are two very different things.

To be honest, the way I hear people get into nursing school (community college) is your name basically gets picked out of a hat. It's all about chance.

Some entry admittance is based in solely GPA and nothing else, some just on lottery, or some just on entry test. Just check around your local college areas

I also went to UCF! I am n the same situation as you regarding GPA. The program that I applied to said that the entire process was based on points. Even though some people may have a better GPA, you may score higher on TEAS. Plus, some take in to consideration any medical experience, the fact that you already have a degree, etc. Try to get As in all of your pre-req, m sure you'll be fine! I bet they could careless about a D in a hospitality program when you get an A in anatomy or microbio.

Awesome! :) Thanks for all the replies everyone. Actually got straight A's and B's after my freshman year lol. Makes me feel better because I thought this would be a long and stressful task but maybe it's not as bad as I thought. Are you going back for a second degree? Go Knights!
