I have a question please:

Can an LNC offer consulting services to the lay public or only offer services to the legal profession?

I realize we're in the Legal Nursing forum. I also understand that many, many LNCs work directly for / with attorneys. Also, that LNCs, like all nurses and all professionals, employ professional standards. There is no question in my mind about all that.

What I've been trying to elicit through several posts is: Is it your opinion that LNCs can only render professional services to attorneys?

I see. Thank you for that specific question.

And, no, the LNC can offer services and, indeed market to:

1. Attorney's (both plaintiff and defense)

2. Insurance companies

3. Healthcare facilities

4. Government agencies (Medicare/Medicaid, etc.)

5. Adoption agencies

6. Other LNC's

7. Medical Examiners

Just a few.

But, bear in mind, these services are provided to the medical-legal team of each agency/facility/entity.

Thanks for responding, Siri. That's more like what I had in mind.

If I were an LNC, I wouldn't place artificial limits on the provision of my expertise. So long as the purpose of the consult was ethical, moral and principled and the client was honorable, I'd consider it an opportunity.

Monica: In response to your question re:advice to lay people-I would be very cautious about that. I just finished Vickie Millazzo's LNC course

and one thing that is mentioned is that we shouldn't give legal "advice."

When people find out that we are nurses they want all kinds of advice-and should be directed to a doctor most of the time. The same with the legal field-we are not trained to give legal advice. My input-take what you can use of it. MLF

Furnishing the above, without having an attorney license, is unlawful.

Similar thing regarding the provision of medical advice.

This is basic nursing school info, no?
