Hi everybody, I usually read most of the time and not post. I just need to find out if this has happened to anyone else. I have been trying for about 8mo to find an office position. I worked nights at a Hospital. I finally found one. I told them that I would not be able to start until April 1. I know this was a Tuesday but my family and I had planned a short vacation prior to me taking this job and there were no refunds plus we had not taken a vacation as a family since 2005. I was really excited about this job, it was 8-5 M-F, no weekends! When we returned from the vacation on Monday there was a message on my answering machine from the office manager of my new job, she said that at this time the Drs. in the office said they did not need anymore staff and she could not hire me. Remind you that I had already given my 2 weeks notice at the hospital and I had done all my shifts. Now I am unemployed. I can't even go back to the hospital because my nurse manager was holding my spot for up coming ACP's who are graduating in May. It's a little depressing for my whole family because my husband and I had told our kids that mom would be home at night and would be home on the weekends. Most likely I am going to have to go back to another hospital to work. Has this happened to any one else? (sorry this is so long)

It's never happened to me and I'm sorry it happened to you.

Perhaps a little talk with that office manager or the doctors might yield a fuller, more truthful answer. It sounds like some monkey business to me.

Best wishes. It will work out.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad news. This may be a blessing in disguise. What would happen if you had started working there, then all of sudden they told you they are overstaffed and cannot use additional help? That doctors office sounds pretty shady to me. Keep looking for that job of your dreams. In the meanwhile, you could work Agency or work PRN in the hospital until something came along that sparked your interest.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I have not had the same situation happen but I have recently lost my job so I am no stranger to disappointment. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that God doesn't close the door without opening a window. There is probably a better job out there waiting for you to find it! Good luck.

Specializes in Critical Care.

So, you were informed sometime in the week before you were to start that you weren't needed? Did you sign anything when the job was offered to you? If so, I would talk with the office manager, reminding her about the signed job offer and if she still said there was no posistions, talk with a laywer. It's my understanding that once a job offer is signed, it's binding.

I'm sorry this has happened to you and as another poster mentioned, maybe it's for the best, freeing you up for a better offer.

Good luck!!
