Question for Students

Just curious if you are finding out if your fellow classmates chose nursing because there is a shortage and a good starting salary?

Or do you think most of them are in the nursing program becuase they want to HELP people?

What have little birds been telling you?

I changed majors to RT for now because of the long waitlist at my school, but my intentions are to become a nurse sometime in the future. I have been working as a kitchen cabinet designer for 8 years , I make good money close to what i'll make as a new grad but there is no job satisfaction at the end of the day for me. I want to do something that matters , i want to feel like my job means something to the world , to god!!! I am 26 years old and i dont want to turn 50 and realize I haven't done anything that matters in this world. I guess i chose the medical field because i have been around health problems all my life , first my grandma , she was diabetic on dialysis , i had to always go to the hospital to interpret , it was an every month thing. She always landed in the hospital , this lasted 10 years , now my parents are diabetic type II, hypertensive and I really want to be able to care for people like my family , I'm sorry to say this but there are alot of cruel people out there taking care of patients. Of course there are also good kind nurses out there and i want to be one of them!!!!!

Both. But, as both of my ex-wives went to this school in years past, I have noticed that most those who are here for just the "big pay" either dont make it or dont last long.

Or else I would have been here 10 years ago. Now I have what they phrase as "the calling".

But the pay is still important, I just couldnt do it it that was the only reason to be in this field.

i have always wanted to be a nurse ever since i can remember. i really was not sure how much they made until one of my cousins entered the field, and i did some investigating once i was sure that is what i wanted to do. i am finally able to do what i have always wanted, of course with the help of my wonderful hubby and kids. but also the money does help!!!
