Hi all
I am currently a 4th year student at Temple University in Philadelphia. I will be graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology Pre-Professional Health this upcoming fall. My original intent was to go on to PT school, but I have since changed my plans and I have decided to enroll in a 2nd-Degree BSN program. So far I have every pre-req completed except for Microbiology. My only issue is that the Nursing Microbio is not being offered next semester. However, "Clinical Microbiology" is being offered under Bio courses. I was wondering if anybody had a clue as to whether this class would be accepted as a substitute for the Nursing Microbiology as I believe it is a more advanced course. All of the other science pre-req's that I have completed such as Biology have been General and not Intro. I was wondering if this is an issue and whether anybody that has already been accepted into a nursing school through taking these sciences could help me.
Thank you very much,
Kyle

This is probably a good question for your academic counselor, don't you think?

Just call over to the nursing department and I am sure they could tell you for sure very quickly!

That can only be answered by the institution to which you hope to apply.

This is going to very much depend on your school. I took Anatomy at a 4 year university, but when I went to apply, they wanted me to go back and take the Allied Health Anatomy course, because the other was "more focused toward animals". Granted I took the other when I was pre-vet, but when I took the allied health anatomy, I found the only difference was that in the Anatomy I HAD taken and the one I was taking was that in the former I disected a dog, and the latter a cat. And yes, I appealed to the highest level I could on that one.
Talk to the nursing school advisor and do what they tell you, otherwise you may end up retaking courses and wasting time and money. Also, search out community colleges in your area and see if any of their micro courses will aplly toward the pre-req and are being offered when you need them.

Most nursing programs require microbi and its lab component. Are you sure clinical microbi isn't just a lab?

Are you planning on applying to more than one place? They all may have different answers. :)

the school advisors are the ones who interpret what is and is not acceptable for your degree program.

If you are talking about an upper division micro class with lab, then yes, of course it will count! Like any class that is aimed at its field, it will be far more in depth than watered down classes like Chemistry for Artists, Physics for Liberal Arts, or Biochemistry for Nurses. Usually, any non-nursing course that is specifically aimed at nurses in its title (except maybe ethics or communications) is a watered down class.
