Question Regarding Non-degreed RN in CA, with a BSN.

I am currently an LVN in a BSN program in California. I am now eligible to sit for boards as a Non-degreed RN. I have a job lined up for me and want to start as soon as possible. I am still going to continue my with my BSN. I also plan on going into a nurse anesthetist program after a year or two. My question is this: If in the event I decide to move away AFTER I get my BSN, will my Non-degreed RN license affect me in any way? This is a very small possiblilty that we will move away since my husband is a Correctional Officer for the state of California. Any advice would be appreciated.

Your CA RN license may not be accepted in the state that you move to. You need to check with the Board of the new state. Also any employer that requires graduation from an approved school of nursing may be wary of the fact that you did not graduate and not hire you for this reason. If you possibly can, you should finish your schooling. I am in the same situation as you and the BRN didn't even let me take the test as a non-graduate, when several of my classmates were able to do so. Unfortunately I can not return to that school to finish. I really think you should finish now while you have the chance and forgo any future problems. Take the NCLEX when you finish school and you will not have any problems with it.

Your situation is unique to CA. However, as you will be completing a BSN - which is recognized in every state as meeting the educational requirement for licensure - you won't have an issue if you move AFTER completing the BSN, provided that you graduate from the college or university granting the degree.
