Question about references

Right now, I am trying to relocate to another part of my state and am searching for another job. The hr department for the job I am applying to is having difficulty reaching former supervisors and so am I. In health care supervisors are very transient. Right now, I have coworkers to use as references and I do not want to use my current supervisor as they do not know that I am planning to leave. The HR department at the job I am applying for states that I have to use at least one supervisor. I'm at a loss for what to do? Should I just tell my current boss that I'm leaving?

The same thing happened to me. I was told that nobody could be located. I checked with my last employer and found that one of the people I was listing as a reference had gone nowhere, had been there all along. It cost me consideration for a job because the people who had been calling regarding me had been lied to. It wasn't my fault. I had no idea who was there and who wasn't.

You are going to have to be forthright with your supervisor. Just tell her that you are relocating and are looking for work. You don't have to go any further than that. Try to emphasize to her that you would appreciate a good reference and that she can expect calls on your behalf.
