Question re: NC5

Published

Does anybody recall what, other than psych, is on this exam? I can reach the excelsior webpage but for some reason, from work, I can't log in or go beyond the main page to see the content.

Need something to study!

Had a few spare minutes at work and thought I'd try to go through our mini-library on the unit and find whatever I could that might apply to my next (and last!) NC exam.

Home now. Phew. Merry Christmas!

Two things:

1) Join the yahoo group called nontradnurses. They have files of notes, outlines, and practice tests for each of the NC exams, plus several others. Doesn't matter that you only have one NC exam left, this group will also be very useful to you as you prepare for the CPNE.

2) You should be able to download the entire study guide for each NC exam from the EC website. If you do that and save it to your hard drive, you will always have it handy. (It's faster to go from page to page if you save it on your own computer too.)

Good luck! (Translation: Work hard and reap the reward you deserve!)

And Merry Christmas.....

I bought this book for $18.00 from Excelsior that has all the study guides for every one of their exams. I'm studying NC 4 now. I was able to get finished with NC 1 and 3 (I don't have to take NC 2)pretty quick but I'm taking my time with NC 4, it is a bit more complicated so I'm going to take a little more time with it.

Anyway, according to my study guides and college catalog NC 5 aside from psych there are questions pertaining to dysfuntction in regulatory mechanisms and dysfunction in metabolic mechanisms.

Good luck with your test.

I've joined several of the yahoo groups. Entirely due to recommendations from here! For some reason I didn't think of that while at work. Probably because getting online isn't actively discouraged but generally doesn't seem to be done, so I just wanted some info quick so I could make myself busy at work.

I have more that everything on my hard drive at home -- my problem today was I could NOT download anything from the EC website, because I was at work ... and didn't have anything with me. Some sort of restriction is in place that won't let me past the home page (only from work). Fortunately work picked up a bit so the day didn't grag on TOO much!

I am definitely looking forward to all the help I can get for the CPNE!

That's strange..... Usually they direct you to their website, where you can download them for free.

And if you request a study guide, they will mail them to you, also for free.

Are you sure the book was from Excelsior College? Sounds more like something from Distance Learning Systems or one of the other study guide publishers.

Nope. It's straight from Excelsior. I ordered it from them in 2002. It was my understanding then that you could get the individual study guides for free through the mail but you could purchase a book with every study guide for every Excelsior test which is what I did. I assumed you could still buy this book in an updated version.

Laurie- a tip that might help you with this exam: care plan every psych dx that you come across. I had tons of psych care planning questions on this one. There is also a companion website to the psych book, if I remember correctly. It had some quizzes that went along with the chapters.
