Question from a patient

Published

I had my child at 40 weeks 4 days. I checked in at labor and delivery after laboring at home for close to 13 hours. The nurse asked me how dilated I was at my 40 week appointment and I told her my cervix hadn't been checked since I was 37 weeks. She then rolled her eyes and said "Oh your one of THOSE". What does that mean? My doctor even told me being checked was pointless as you can go from a 1-10 in 24 hours or stay at a 3 for weeks.

I didn't say anything at the time because I was obviously preoccupied but just curious as to what that meant?

Sorry if this question is inappropriate but I figured you guys would be able to help me understand

Not sure what that meant, but this isn't the best place to seek answers related to care you received. Instead, why not touch base with a patient representative/advocate at the facility where you received care?

It seems like a ridiculous thing to say, but I'm guessing that she means that (she assumes) you are one of those "woowoo crunchy granola" women who eschew all interventions, have a birth plan, etc.

Again, it's a ridiculous thing to say. I hope you had a good birth experience!
