Question for Nurse Managers

Published

Do NM's really want applicants to show up on their unit in person with their resume in hand? I recently had a NM say he gave special consideration to those applicants who went out of their way to meet him. I thought this might be rude. Is this what NM's want? I'm willing to do it if it will help me in my job search.

Thanks for your help.:)

That is how I got my job. I had been trying to get into the hospital for a year and finally got up enough nerve to go in and try to catch the manager. Just go in and act really humble, let them know you do not want to disrupt their schedule, but that you wanted to bring in your resume to them personally. She interviewed me on the spot and sent a request down to HR to get the full blown interviews started. It was awsome!!!

TonyaM73, Good advice and I can only dream that will happen to me. Thanks for your help.

I am quite shocked how easy it is to get to the floor. What do you tell security? Do you just mosey on up without a pass? No one questions your presence?

you have to know what floor you are going to. I have done this a couple of times. If you ask security about so and so 's office, they will usually give you directions or take you there. I never tell them that I am an applicant though, they always assume you are a family member of a patient that has something important to say to the nurse manager :)

RNbakes, Thanks for your post. That was creative, never thought about doing that! I guess in this market one has to think outside of the box.
