Hello all, I wasn't sure exactly where this question fit, and I'm also hoping someone might have an answer; here goes:
I got my California RN license a few weeks ago. According to their website, my license is good until Spetember of 2012. A friend, who also just received his license here in CA, sjows that his is valid until June of 2013.
Can anyone tell me why mine isn't good for a full two years and his is?
Sign me just wondering! (very glad I passed the NCLEX no matter what the answer!)

It has to do with your date of birthday...not really sure but something about if you take the test after your birthday it is valid for longer...maybe someone else can explain it better but I know for sure it has to do with your birthday. Hope that helps...
Thanks for letting me know! Now I can pass on that info to someone else who had the same question!

I wondered the same thing back when I got my license. Here's the answer:
http://rn.ca.gov/licensees/lic-renewal.shtml
Renewal Cycle
Your first California RN license is issued for two birthdays - not two years - and it will expire the last day of the month following your birth date. From that date on, it will expire every two years, if renewed timely. Once a California license number is issued, it will always remain the same number whether active, inactive or delinquent. If the license lapses and is later renewed, the same license number and renewal cycle will apply.
Thanks so much for your information, now I don't have to call the board!

Also, RN licenses expire on even years. LPN licenses expire on odd years. Is your friend an LPN?
No, my friend is an RN, his birthday was the issue. Thanks for your info!
