Question about ISU LPN to BSN Program

Published

Specializes in Long Term Care.

I am a current LPN graduate in IL and I am taking my boards on January 14th. I have already opted to go through with the ISU, LPN to BSN program. I know there is already a thread about this school but as I was discussing this with a classmate we realized some of our infomation doesn't match up.

Once I take my boards I am going to go through the process of applying for a license in CA. However my friend said that CA no longer recognizes ISU, but this website and ISU's website says it does, but ISU's website was last updated in 2009.

Does any one have any updated information about this program and the states it is CURRENTLY recognized in? I am trying to be thourough in my planning for my future in nursing.

Thank you to any one in advance who has any information!

ISU is recognized in CA. It is even specifically addressed on the CA BRN website.

i think it's excelsior that CA doesn't recognize; but the best way to find out is to go straight to the source and contact the CA board of nursing :)

As caliotter mentioned, it is addressed on the CA BRN site ...

I do believe that people are getting that statement mixed up with Excelsior, Here in GA the state no longer accepts Excelsior. I think the mix up comes with college network that offers study materials to ISU and Excelsior students. I emailed the GA BON myself to find out after nurses i worked with swore that the site for state had stated it dont accept distant learning from any school. :idea:I felt it was was not true so I did my own research. I was was emailed back that as long as the school was regionally and nationally accredited, that they are accepted. :uhoh3:Then i heard a nurse mention that the final exam is a supervised weekend of clnical which u have to pass, i knew then they were confused with Excelsior which does their clnical hours that way which is why they are losing rep. and acceptance by some states. ISU has you doing clinical as you work on certain classes, not just the last weekend of the program for 8 hours a day each day. I do believe Excelsior lost accreditation but ISU is very reputable and has both accreditations. So with this said:yeah:, I am continuing my pursuit of my BSN even after being misinform by nurses that would argue me down about this. But I got it from the horse's (GA BON) itself/ :)

P.S.

ISU is recognized I do believe when I last checked it was 38 states/US Territory and they have 7 more states they are working on getting the approval from. and this is from http://www.indstate.edu/lpn-bs/pdfs/lpn-bs-approving-states.pdf which you will see was revised 03/2011 It is approved in CA and they cannot legally say they have approval from CA if that was truly the case.

Excelsior is regionally and nationally accredited and is now accepted by GA BON as long as certain stipulations are met. All of this was hashed out and detailed in this years legislative session; info present on homepage of BON website.

Back to ISU, my issue with them was the idea of having to find my own clinical sites and have them enter into agreement with the school; which is why I decided to stay with EC. I didn't want to run the risk of having to go to clinicals over 3hrs away if the hospital I work in didn't want to enter into agreement with ISU or vice versa. I will be graduating EC shortly and according to the BON's new rules I may or may not have to complete additional clinical hours under a preceptor. Either way doesn't bother me one bit.
