Hey all. This month has been such a great month for me. I have successfully passed my boards and I have accepted a job at Grady Memorial in the ER. I have been reading the threads in this forum on Grady and I have seen some posts on how Grady's benefits are not good. I do realize some people are angry with Grady and these opinions could be biased. My question is, do most Grady employees choose the non-benefits option and find outside health insurance? If so, why? Is it due to the increase in pay? Or are the benefits not comparable to other hospital's benefit packages. The independent insurance I looked into was the Tonik Plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia. If anyone has this plan, let me know what you think! Thanks! :redpinkhe

hey how is grady going for you ??
Grady is going great! LOL. The learning curve is very steep. (IMHO) But I enjoy the challenge. The ECC is HUGE and we have tons of residents coming through. The best part about the ECC is EVERYONE is learning....so Im never afraid to ask questions or ask for clarification from other nurses, docs, pharmacists, etc. Do you currently work at Grady?
No, I am thinking about applying there after I am finished in March 2012.. Did you take the contract for loan repayment?
Cool. I would def consider it. I did not take the contract for loan repayment. I did take the contract to be in the RN Residency Program.

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for GA BON to post your license? I am anxiously waiting for them to post my license so I can begin applying for positions, possibly looking into applying at Grady. Thanks!

If you took the RN Residency program, do you owe 2 years to Grady? Or is that only if you took the loan repayment contract? and if you leave before the 2 years are up for the residency program then, what happens (if you leave after a year)? Thank you.

The GA BON moves very slowly. Hunker down and get comfortable. I graduated during the beginning of the month of May a few years ago from an out of state program. It was near the end of June before I got my ATT. I tested at the beginning of July. It was almost the end of July by the time my license posted. Probably a 10 week process.
Well it suprisingly only took 4 business days for them to process my application in January and took my NCLEX on Feb 2, so i'm hoping next week I will see it up, bu ya never know with them! Thanks for the response!

It used to be with the residency program that if you quit before the 2 years were up, you had to repay some portion of your "training costs." In 2006 this was 10,000 (yes, ten grand) for specialty areas...25% was forgiven AFTER you worked 6 month blocks. After 6 mo, you'd owe 7500. After 12 mo, 5000. And so on. A lot of people probably choose outside insurance as Grady's family plan is close to $700/month and the difference in pay for benefits/none is $7-ish to boot.
