Question- Fall 2017 (Canadian nursing school)

Published

Hi everyone,

I start it the BScN program at Laurentian. It was very expensive so I took a year off. I just got a result from an appeal. They decide it to give me the abandon mark (don't want to explain the reason). I am taking a year off and would like to go back next fall. I was wondering if I apply to other BScN or BN school (if they take transfer student) if I would have any question to answer about it? I do not want to said the real reason since I was not required to drop the program and I would no longer be on probation in that case.

Any sort of gap like this will have to be explained regardless of where you apply. Seats in nursing programs are in very high demand and faculties have an obligation to ensure these seats are filled with students who will commit to completing the whole program. Concealing this episode is possible by simply leaving it off your application but not exactly a sign of the kind of ethical behaviour expected from nurses. As for the cost of a nursing education, it should have come as no surprise that a university education would be expensive. One of the most important qualities required of nurses is accountability. That means taking responsibility for one's actions. For better or worse.

I don't understand what are you talking about. Some people drop out the program for financials reason or medical leave.

You've said you don't want to explain why you took a year off. Or perhaps you were referring to the school not wanting to give you a reason for listing you as a voluntary withdrawal. It's not very clear from the way you've worded it. You DID say, "I was wondering if I apply to other BScN or BN school (if they take transfer student) if I would have any question to answer about it? I do not want to said the real reason... " - direct quote. So I'm reading that as you don't want to have to explain why you took a year off. Am I wrong?

You can explain that you dropped out for personal reasons, you do not need to disclose details, you have the right to privacy. However, you may find it difficult to find a school that will accept the transfer of credits, because the program content and curriculum can vary between schools.
