Question for all the experienced travelers

Published

Hi, I`m concerned I am not getting paid or compensated for my travel assignments but I wonder if it is just me. I just currently finished my first assignment which was a 8 weeks assignment in NY. I was getting paid $20.50/hr + $245 a week for meals and I took the living allowance which was $2000 (but the company doesn`t pay you $2000...they divide the $2000 by 52 [weeks in a year] and then multiply it by 7 [days in a week] which comes out to roughly $270 a week... multiply by 4 weeks in a month and its only $1080 so already short 1 grand). I didnt get a completion bonus because i as told there is no completion bonus for 8 week contracts.

So now I am again in NY and taking my second contract and now my pay is $21.30/hr, $1900 allowance ($255 a week after math) $245 for meals and there is no completion bonus at the end of this travel contract.

So my question is....IS THIS NORMAL?! Some nurses on the units I am working on make alot more than me. I have 10 years experience and I feel that I could probably do better as a staff than a traveler....Any suggestions? Tips? Comments? Please let me know.....you can inbox me also! Thank you very much!

It sounds like a great package and that was smart for you to take the $760/housing. If you stay there for a year you will bank 72K! WOW. Keep us posted...

Ok good!! I was like ummmm it's Bakersfield....out of all the places I could go ........ Wow I didn't think about it like that, maybe Bakersfield will be my new home for the next year!! haha :)

I think you are getting screwed on the housing deal. I've only taken the housing money once and it was 1000. Which was more than enough for the area and it was split between the two pay periods each month and taxed along with my other wages.

I would call my company. If you are only on this location 13w I doubt you'll ever see the rest of that housing money.

I think you were getting screwed if you only had two pay periods a month!

Also, Im having a hard time understanding what you are even talking about. You recieved a $1000/month (taxed) stipend split over 2 paychecks in Bakersfield? What's so good about that?

First off I wasn't in Bakersfield I was down south and 1000.00/ month was way more than adequate to get nice housing in the area. Secondly I WAS being paid bi-weekly which I'll admit isn't ideal but I took the contract for the location not necessarily the money. Secondly I never said I made out like a fat cat on that job. Who does these days? I was just pointing out that my monthly housing stipend was actually given to me even though it was taxed. There was no tricky calculation involved. THe housing WAS taxed but my meals money wasn't.

I was just stating my personal experiece. Tango I don't know why you always feel the need to swoop in and be an ass. If I wasn't clear you could have said just that. .

Im not trying to be an ass, Im trying to get the correct information out there...

The way you told 5150 they were getting screwed and to call the company made it seem like you just ended a contract there in Bakersfield. You sounded like you BTDT or something.

Its like the person the other day talking about "They are screwing you--Back in my day, I got $38/HR, Housing, Insurance & PerDiem + $3500 Extension" Unless you are talking about the same areas (geographically) & (professionally) as well as the same economic condition, all of that is irrelevent.

I applied with Cross Country. I heard from human resources lady, the next day. She seemed really personable. I heard from the recruiter, 3 days after. She said it may be hard to get a hospital to sign me, because I will only have one yr. experience. I guess, they really like it if you have 2 yrs.

Was it the HR lady at the hospital or CC that called you the next day? If it was the hospital, that shows they were willing to consider you. If it was the agency, it could be any # of reasons but Ive worked with 12month RNs.
