Question about commission

I will apologize in advance for the long post and offer my thanks to any replies. I am currently seeking a commission as a Aeromedical evacuation nurse in the airforce reserve. I have gone through interviews with the unit and am so excited about the commission. I have completed the long background clearance form and went for my physical in July of 2008. I am still waiting 5 months later for my physical to be approved. I have called to make sure they have all the necessary paper work. My recruiter has called the medical squad and they say they are working on it. Is this typical for how long a physical takes to be approved? My recruiter is far away and has told me it just takes this long but my application has not even been sent to the reserve headquarters. My husband has suggested finding another recruiter who is closer and might be able to help my application along. Has anyone had similar experiences? I am still dead set on joining the squad. I don't want to sit around and do nothing when I might be able to do something to speed up the process. Thank you again for any advice

I wonder why this is a common practice in the Airforce? Each day there is something new my recruiter forgot to send to the board, then he ask me if I have it? There should be written protocols, and each system should help one other on the common goal, of doing things legitimate, but as expedient as possible.

I would think it's because they are not directly accountable to the citizens that they are supposed to be serving.

Look at the process:

- Person wants to join (needs the job, feels duty to serve, whatever). They have no idea what the process is or how it is supposed to proceed.

- Contact with a recruiter (in my case that was flawed from the start. The information on the actual Air Force site was inaccurate). We as medical go through Health Professions recruiters. In my case I have been with three recruiters and one I now am fairly sure was obviously clueless, inept or just plan dishonest.

-Package formation. Application, physical, interview(s), contract negotiation, etc... So many levels of bureaucracy that are out of touch with the applicant, unknown to the applicant and shielded from the applicant. Levels of bureaucracy that are "supposed" to work together but are not answerable to each other. Multiple levels of criteria with multiple levels of possible waivers for those criteria.

Person gets in with no hassle

Person gets in with some hassle

Person is D/Qd immediately.

Person is D/Qd goes through the waiver process and gets in

Person is D/Qd goes through the waiver process and is denied.

Person gets lost in the process gets feed up

Person gets lost in the process but by some means still gets in

Person is straight out not allowed to submit a package

The list could go on and on....

From my process so for; there is no responsibility, only the blame game, deniability on top of no accountability. Yep there is a high level of frustration in this posting.

Hey,

I understand exactly where you are, and what your experiencing. I wonder what could we do to help the Airforce process smoother? Is there anyone that we could give our written experience to, so that they may develope a more thorough protocols, logical time frames, and accountability of the recruiters...............................................

What can we do so that this will not be staus quo.........just how it is......or what i went throught, though tortuous, you to must endure the same broken process.....................................................

There should be something we can do to make the process functional and sane......................................................................

The process will only get better when/if they interested in doing so or are forced to do so. I have kept my time line from day one and I finally sent it to the commander of recruiting, in my corner of the country, a week ago. So far nothing more than notification that he had forwarded my complaint for action. Notice I did say the commander.

Any and everyone who is having problems or has had problems needs to let the recruiting commanders know. If that is unsatisfactory let your congressional representative know. Within the last year Air Force recruiting testified in congress of their difficulties recruiting health care providers, I bet they didn't mention the difficulties they themselves heap onto the process.

:twocents::twocents:

Looks like command has made some moves. I have received two calls from where they my physical was completed. Apparently my 2nd recruiter did nothing with my medical records. He also did not forward requested information.

Practically told today: "if you want something done right do it yourself"

Kind of hard to do this when you are following through with what is being asked of you but those in control are not.

Arghhhhhhhhh!

How can we do it ourselves,,,,,,,, we are trusting that they are trained, and functional in their position as a recruiter????????? wow! Well at least you have an update maybe your paperwork can move forward now..................
