I my a new LPN working in long-term care. My aides are not respectful to me. They give me an attitude problem all the time they only help the nurses that they like in that have been there for years. I'm sure this is normal in every way through it but is anyone have any advice on how to handle it I tried being nice and helping and it didn't work. They actually hate me more now. I started out as a medical assistant 15 years I have expirenced being Unlicensed medical professional. Why are they like this ? Help
They are pigs. Stop buying them food, and start writing them up and sending them home. And after you send them home, call your DON and be sure she/he knows. You can be nice without bending over to them. And usually there is only one lead pig, knock her (or him) back a bit and the others usually fall back.
And no this should not be "normal". It, like 99.999999% of ALLLLL probs in ltc results from inadequate staffing.
Good luck to you.

I have had this problem before and I call them out on it. As an LVN you can find me cleaning beds, pt's rooms, turning pt's, transporting, whatever they need, etc...I have never called on my CNA's to do a thing that I can do myself, when I see that they are busy. Some nurses will call on them for opening a juice box and that to me is absurd. My problem is the harm that came to your patient and that, I have a major problem with. I would find out which CNA was on that shift and give him or her 1 warning. I would document this 1 warning and let them know should this "mishap" happen again, they will not only be written up but be reported, as my dear you have YOUR own license to worry about. If something should happen to any of YOUR patients on YOUR watch, you will be held accountable by state law. So, do not take this lightly and it seems like you are trying to be nice but not everyone wants to be your friend and that is ok. You have your friends outside of work.
