This is completely dependent on which state board of nursing is issuing the license. I looked around on the NJBON website and didn't see anything that specifically addressed the licensure packet contents or the specific CE requirements.
I'll move this to the NJ Forum so that you get some answers specific to your state.
This might seem like a silly question.....when the state mails you your license what else do they send you? Do you receive a list of CEUs that you need, your state's scope of practice, etc? I just passed my NCLEX and am waiting for my license. And how long does it take?Just wondering:wink2:
This isnt official just what i think to help answer your question. Ok, from what i remember from nursing school, the state's scope of practice should be found on the state board of nursing page (the nurse practice act?). Im not sure but i think we have a year to do maybe 2 or 3 CEUs. That's a safe guess but again Im not sure. Even though I havent received my license yet, im going to start preparing to take CEUs just so i can get it out of the way and am not left scrambling around. Looking forward to hearing what you have found out. Oh most of my friends say they received their license in no more than 14 days. They had everything in though prior to taking NCLEX. I did fingerprints a week before NCLEX so it may take longer but again Im new to this too so not sure.
Thanks for the info.....I passed the NCLEX on the 15th of August, but had my prints done on 27th. Hopefully I will get something this upcoming week.
Youre quite welcome. You and me are the same. I took my prints 8/11 and NCLEX8/20 (roughly a week apart). I hope you will post when you receive your license because Im starting to get anxious. I want to go on interviews etc but am concerned about when i will be receiving my license.
nj is in flux. I got fingerprinted 2007 for 2008 renewal. For NJ lincence you have to keep records of 15 ceu per year (ithink you have to keep the records up to four/five years) If you write to the state board of nsg after many months :banghead:you will get a letter stating how they calculate ceu's . You can get them for college courses as well as through nsg magazines and your own work place. Surprisingly you can even get them for teaching an inservice at work. You can also carry 15 ceus into the next year if you get alot one year(not hard to do if you like to read a lot). You need to start now keeping a file of ceus (paper or computer) of seminars (certificates) and online and other things. You would be wise to find the freebie magazines in the area. Nursing Spectrum(my favorite) and Advance are both in the Jersey area. You can google them and subscribe and they have reasonable programs- pay a yearly fee- for ceu and record keeping. Medscape is another area to google-The ceus are small but very varied for the very curious(thousands). I use this one when I bump into a new disease condition or treatment at work.
