question about california requirements

Published

hi ms suzzane and everyone... i currently garduated bsn nursing in the phillippines and anxious in getting to california and work as an rn there... my friend has advised me to just take the nclex exam (not cgfns anymore) once i passed go to california and apply directly to a hospital and get them to petition me to gain citizenship and be legal in california, usa.. is this correct and fool proof? i don't want to jeopardize my chances of working in california and overstay or something... i have a tourist visa that i could use to go there, just trying to make sure so as not to delay me anymore because i have kids already going to school and desperately need to be an rn in california..

if what my friend tells me is right.. once petitioned can i bring my family with me also.. and will it be fast for me to bring them there once petioned by an hospital?

what english proficiency exam will i need for california?

and do i need to apply for a visascreen also eventhough i don't need cgfns for california? 'coz they told me that i don't need to take and pass it anymore (cgfns) because it is not needed in california.. and from what i've read in websites is to apply for a visascreen you need to pass cgfns because these two are sort of required together..

and one more thing i did'nt take the local board exam in my country because they told me that california wont need local rn status in my country as a requirement..

hope you guys could enlighten me about these things... its like really depressing when i think about it when i feel that i still have a long way to go.. thanks so much in advance.

With retrogression you can not adjust your visa and stay in the US and this window will probably not open up again for a while. Also your family needs to be included in your application otherwise will be years before they can join you. The only option at the moment for you is to stay in the Philippines and start the process and gain experience as a nurse (or look to another country) Current processing times is 2005 for the Philippines and no telling if the trend will continue or regress. You still need VSC for immigrant application and a pass in NCLEX or CGFNS but unless the state requires it you only need NCLEX (which is a requirement to work as a RN) We also do not recommend California for initial licensure as they will not issue you with a license until in the US with a valid work visa, they will destroy your file after 3 years unless you are able to extend or provide a SSN. Much has already been written in the forum so suggest a good read especially threads on California, Retrogression and the sticky titled Primer to working in the US
