I have worked at both LMH and SMH but not recently. LMH is a smaller community hospital, approx. 200 beds if memory serves me correctly, and has a very active ER, a small ICU/CCU, and medicine, surgery, peds, maternity, and nursery along with ECU.

Surrey is a larger center with approx. 420 beds (this was the figure I heard today) with many of the services that you would find at a tertiary care facility except they do not do some of the fancier stuff...I mean specifically some of the major neuro, cardiac, or transplant surgery. Adults would probably go to Royal Columbian, Vancouver General, or St. Pauls Hospital, and children to BC Childrens' Hospital.

SMH does have some better programs, but are facing a staffing crunch as are other hospitals within the Fraser Health Authority. Don't let some of the media stories scare you off. My daughter was admitted for a 9-day stay at SMH last year, and I can't complain at all about the care she received. I worked both in the ER and a medical unit at SMH and ER at LMH, and while things aren't perfect, they are not bad either.

I work at Surrey Memorial Hospital, and I love it there! Don't let other people influence your thoughts on any worksite...try it out for yourself there's no better way to find out if it's a good fit for you ( or not). Goodluck with your search.

I used to work at Langley Hospital. I quite enjoyed my time there. With regard to Surrey - take the stories with a grain of salt.
