Question about ACLS and PALS

Published

Hello Everyone: Does having your ACLS and PALS certifications help with your application? I have had these in the past, but am not practicing right now. I thought it help me "brush up" to.

Thank you for all your responses. It really is helping me in my decision to move forward :o)))).

I don't see how it could hurt; but I doubt it would help all that much. Be aware though, that APMC only recognizes AHA; I got a nasty-gram telling me my BLS/ACLS were not good enough and I needed to retake it.

What do you mean by not practicing? Is it not working as a nurse or in areas which do not require ACLS/PALS? If you have not been nursing for a period of time that could hurt you. It would depend on how long since you have practiced nursing and your experience.

Where having ACLS/PALS might help a little bit is if you where trying to get a ICU or ER identifier.

My current position that is ending I did not need these courses for the job. I took a 4 years off, but returned and worked outside of critical care (very hard to get back into even though I had a good 7 years of experience (CIC, NICU, Medical/Surgical/Telemetry). I was told that the Army took new graduates, so my time off and lack of a current position at the time of my application would not be horrible............., but maybe it is??? I was just thinking of taking the courses now, so it shows that I am trying to work towards a goal...........Let me know what you think.

Sounds like a good idea, can always help on your current job also.
