The application requirements are very clear but I am worried
It's in here : http://www.qcc.cuny.edu/Nursing/criteria.html
In the pre-reqs I got:
Psychology101: A
Anatomy and physiology: A
Sociology: B+
English101: C-
Yes I know, I don't know what the hell happened in English
However I read something in the site that gave me a bit of hope and it said:
Only the first grade attained in the pre - clinical sequence will be calculated. However, students are permitted to increase their Application GPA by substituting a grade achieved in a higher level course. This substitution is allowed for one Pre Clinical Course as follows:
Does this mean if I get an A in English 102, they will disregard the grade I have for English 101? Is it to good to be true??
I have an A in English 102
What are the chances of me getting accepted?
If you got accepted into the nursing program at qcc, what was your GPA?
Yeah I went to QCC. I had a low GPA. I can't remember off the top of my head. I retook a lot of classes and I was struggling. But that is why I am saying it seems like you will be okay. And as the others say, take your science classes. Focus hard. I can't remember my teachers for those classes but once you stay focused you will be alright.
I'm sure you will do just fine :)
O.o Anyone of you RN now? If so, what school did you go to and what was your GPA when you got in? It's quite interesting that I heard stories that there are people with 4.0 GPA who still can't get in.
I guess I'm brainwashed by these horror stories
This answer is coming straight from my English professor husband:
"You should have no trouble due to the C- in English. It appears that for your GPA, the English 102 grade will be substituted. The other grade will remain on your transcript but will not affect your transcript. If acceptance is totally based on GPA, then you will be fine. For extra reassurance, talk with your program director or the registrar."
Yup I am a BSN RN. I was lucky to have the opportunity to go out of state. NY is just too competitive. The school took my classes from QCC but didn't take the actual grades, which was a God sent! Lol. I got in with a 3.89 because I took some other pre-reqs the school needed and got all A and one B (math, ugh).

It's based on pre-req GPA and the PAX RN test, if you know any way good websites that give you practice test, please link me them. Tell your husband I said thanks for the advice!

Wow so lucky! I wish I have opportunities like that, do you think 3.8 GPA should be fine for me?
I am not yet a nurse, I am still a student at QCC. One of these days I will be finished and I like to hope that when I am I will find a job somewhere.I would bet that your 3.8 will get you in, just get a decent grade on the PAX, which I'm sure you will.
It's only a 3.8 GPA because of substitution, if they didn't allow substitution, my C- in English would drop it dramatically...
You will get a great opportunity too. Just keep trying. To me, yes your GPA is awesome, but it's all to the good people at QCC lol
Thank you very much!
When you hand in your application, the person that takes it (usually the program assistant) checks to make sure you have everything you need and fills in your grades on the bottom of your application form. This is where you are allowed to substitute one grade- so for me, I had an A- in ENG 101 and an A in ENG 102, so I asked that I could substitute that one grade. I am pretty sure that they take your GPA straight from your transcript and don't calculate it on their own. I recently got accepted with an A in all prereqs except for A&P 1, which I got an A- in. I had very high PAX scores as well.
Have you taken the PAX test yet? I'd recommend making sure that you do very well in the verbal section.
Hi what was your score in the PAX test. I scored 96% which is 139 but someone at qcc told me that it has to be at least 100% to apply. I feel so sad because I have to wait 6 months to take the test again. I have a 4.0 GPA, currently taking A&P but this score on the PAX test upsets me. I'm not good remembering formulas and in physics I guess I screwed it .
