That's what the professor said who did my interview. One in my group asked her why is it that there are applicants with a 4.0 GPA but didn't get accepted., and she said because they couldn't construct a sentence in English.

It seems like that they prefer talkative person rather than good GPA. But it's about your personality. Some students don't talk too much. It does not mean they don't have ability to well communicate. qcc needs to offer a reasonable proportion between interview and academic performance. If I know they more focus on interview and take 3.3 and 3. 5 students, I would not choose here at the beginning.

Wish I had known that I don't really need a high GPA and a high NEX score...it says on the website it's very competitive so..

Do not choose  this  school!  Their criteria are  not objective. I got full A in all preclinical courses, nex 265. My first interview didn't prepare very well, but my second was fine. They rejected me and the reason is "you don't prepare very well and we have a lot of students to apply. It's only four months you can apply again. " I am not satisfied with this answer. As I know, my friend has lower GPA and she even didn't reach the score requirements in nex test and she even didn't finish Microbiology, but she got offer! scores are not the most important factor in this school. it is all about how lucky you are, which professor you will meet in the interview. Some profess just check whether you can communicate with others, others may ask some clinical questions. These would not happen in other CCs. It's so unfair  ! I waste my time here, have to gap half a year to apply other school.

You had two interviews?v?

They gave you a reason of denial?

No.

They said sometimes there is a second  interview request. I will transfer to other CC that don't require interview, because I don't think each professor has same interview criteria.

I now have to study for the TEAS

I thought the interview was only to see how well you communicate

Hello, I wanted to give my personal experience with my interview. I consider myself to be quite a shy person, and going into the interview, I was rather nervous. The professor that was assigned to me asked like two questions. Maybe I lucked out with that; I didn't have to speak much. I gave simple, direct answers. Besides the interview, I think it really depends on which professor you're assigned to. Maybe each professor has their own way of assessing which student they believe is competent enough for the program, but my interviewer made it clear that they were just looking out for our fluency in English.

Besides the interview, I think some other factors they consider when choosing between two students are whether they took their prerequisites at QCC. They might favor those who do them there. Another thing could be how you took your prereqs. For example, in one semester, I took gen bio along with A&P 1 plus other courses (full time) and CHEM with A&P 2 during a second semester plus other courses (full time). The department might view this as competitive compared to someone who took prereqs in a much safer way by spacing them out. The department could also favor students that reapply. In previous threads, students who reapplied the second time around got admitted. The department themselves encourage reapplying due to a heavy flow of applicants.
[ Everything I mentioned are simply theories and not confirmed]

Regardless, I understand the frustration students feel when they have great GPAs and NEX scores but are rejected for unknown reasons. I believe the department should be transparent about these reasons to help students clarify their doubts. However, I encourage you to reapply and keep your hopes up. I want to congratulate all of you and efforts thus far.

Did anyone of you get in with a GPA below 3.5?

Yes . )))

I would like to just add that my experience,  I want to communicate that the nursing program is really looking for people who are good communicators, who are patient advocates, and sociable, and can work with others well, and they want to see that in the interview. They want to see that you're initiating, you're understanding the questions, you're answering concisely, you're able to work well with others, and stuff like that. It's not only about having the best grades and the best entrance exam. My grades were average, I got A's and B's. I finished my Microbiology, I got a 205 on the nex exam. I didn't study for the Nex because I just wanted to see were I stood in my knowledge. So my average GPA was probably like a 3.7, and my test score was a 205. I completely forgot most of the math concepts,  the verbal was good but my science was average,  I was in the 70th percentile but did well in the interview, and all the people in my interview also did well. We formed a group chat, and we all got into the program. And so I feel like it was about all of us talking to each other, and being sociable, and being well-adjusted. I feel like it's not only about being book smart, and stuff like that. You have to also be able to advocate for your patients, and be good nurses. And that is not just about how well you do on tests. There's a lot of people that test well, but can't interact or communicate in a high-paced environment like nursing. That also takes into consideration your personality, I guess. But yeah, I think they put heavy emphasis on the interview, and they put a heavy emphasis on if you've already taken Microbiology, because Microbiology is a heavy course and they don't want you to fail Microbiology once you get into the program, and then you have to drop out of the program. So take Microbiology, take all your other prereqs, and apply. And if you don't get in, just apply again. They also take that into consideration, that you wanted to get into the program, so you're willing to try and try again. There's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with failure, and trying again. Don't overcomplicate it. Yes, there's a limited amount of spots, but you have to be patient. Good luck guys!
