Purpose for word, power point, and excel in nursing

i am doing an assignment for school and i need to know what a nurse would use microsoft word, power point, and excel for. i have looked on google a dozen times and can not find an answer so i figured who better to ask then some nurses. any help that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

Um - the same things that 'normal' people use them for. Honestly, I don't understand the purpose of this assignment unless it is to get students to explore activities that nurses do. Nurses with administrative responsibilities use the same kinds of software that other 'office jockeys' use - as well as a lot of organization-specific applications. Nurses in staff positions may also be involved in administrative/operational tasks. Microsoft office seems to be the most commonly used platform... does this help?

3 years later, and this assignment is still around. I don't understand the purpose of it either and since I don't have any experience in the healthcare field or any field that uses Microsoft, this answer doesn't help. I assume you have your own software you use instead of Microsoft anyway. Therefore, if anyone can help, much appreciated! I too have search the web and databases and am not sure how to answer this and the teacher didn't give us anything else to go on.

Me personally, I was quite irritated this weekend when I wanted to open a docx and couldn't because we didn't have it.

Excel is used for staff scheduling assignments, Word is used for creating letters to go out to staff and also for meeting notes. I really don't get why they create assignments like this, its sort of ridiculous.
