Pulse Oximeter infants to 2 years

Hello Colleagues,

Silly problem: my urgent care does not have a sufficient Pulse Oximeter for infants to 2 year olds. I am going to buy one myself to use in the clinic....can anyone suggest a good pulse ox for this age range? I appreciate it!

First, I would not purchase my own SpO2 monitor for work. As far as not having a "sufficient pulse oximeter for infants to 2 year olds" what exactly do mean? If your facility has an SpO2 monitor the most that should be necessary is to purchase a small probe.

Yes to this. Look online for the appropriate size probes for that make and model and make a suggestion that the facility obtain them for future use.

Sicky probes are really the best for kids under 2; however you can also use an adult or small pulse ox regular probe on the toes and that will usually give you a accurate reading.

As others have said I would not be using your own money to purchase stuff for a facility that can more than likely afford it. I would email your nurse manager and let her know the situation and let her handle the buying!

An FDA approved pulse ox would need to be used and they are not cheap, you would also have to have a bio tech test the equipment before it is used in the facility and the sticky probes are fairly expensive!
