Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

Okay guys I am coming next week. I was a little scared, but excited. Now everyone is discouraging me telling me how unsafe Puerto Rico is. Telling me it is not a good idea to go. PLEASE HELP :-( Right about now I AM discouraged.

Barbara I know you already bought your ticket just come. See for yourself.

Like I said before in a post that disapeared when they did that big update. I have had much worse things happen to me living in Paris than here.

I am not saying that crime doesn't exist. Of course it does. Just be smart and you will be fine.

And really as students here we live in our own wolrd.

Anyway you are already coming on Sunday (in 4 days) so check it out. Oh and by the way the San Sebastian festival is happening in Old San Juan Friday, Sat, and Sunday. It's not really my thing but you may like it. It reminds me of Mardi Gras in a way but even less culture and no bare body parts. So basically the worst parts of Mardi Gras which also isn't my thing. Bring me back to Brazil during carnival any day but this is nothing like that.

ANyway as far as crime I know two iPhones have been stolen and a friend had his motorcycle stolen when he lived outside of the Ocean Park community.

Just come and check it out.

Thanks. I just feel badly because I am going there alone. My friend, her dad travels there often and told her how he is afraid every time he goes there for business. I am definitely planning on coming still. I am just a little scared and a bit discouraged now. :-/

As far as the "worst parts of Mardi Gras" festival, I think I'll pass. haha Thanks though. :-)

I can't remember, but was it you on this forum that rented a room for a while? All students or female or something? Do you know if that person has property elsewhere or do you still have their contact info?

Thanks again for all your help.

Yeah I didn't really sell the San Sebastian Festival did I. ;-)

Nope it wasn't me but I think I know who you are talking about. She called it a dorm but it wasn't that. Just all female roomates and the place was furnished but it was still like renting an apartment. Deposit and contract terms.

Did you look into Couch Surfing? I would get a place. Did you check out the Posada San Francisco or what ever the name was. I posted it a few days ago. STay there for a few days while you are looking around.

Crime in PR is like in any big city out there. Just be aware of your surroundings and dont put yourself in a dangerous situation. I avoid big gatherings and parties because most of the time they don't end up good. Darn those PR drug dealers! They are destroying my beautiful island! Lol

haha. No you did not sell it at all. Thanks though!

I found a place to surf for the the days I will be there. I looked into the hostel, but rooms weren't available for all three days. Before I booked I received a response from CS, so I went with that. He is verified and has many reviews...

I did find some listings for rooms near Bayamon Universities. I will call them tomorrow and see if I they are still available.

Ha!Drug dealers.

Thanks.

I figured I would just go to school and study. Maybe go to the beach once in a while. Of course grocery shopping is on that list. I really won't intentionally put myself in any situation. I mean I live in a small city and did not go to post office kiosk at 7:30 because it's dark outside...But everyone is making such a big deal.

Lol its not so bad!

Avoid parties? Naw don't do that. I am not too into night clubs or loud bars so many of the people I met were at parties. But these are parties of people from school or Couch Surfers or my Puerto Rico atheist group or my cycling friends, etc.

I do warn you to be very careful on Noche de San Juan. It is some time in June and at midnight every person on the island goes to the beach. Last year some drugged out wacko punched me in the face. It is a longer story than that but in my opinion just avoid the beach that night.

I'll send you an email. I may know the person. Like I said before this is a small island. There was an opening of a local bar/club right before Christmas break. I know I said I don't normal go to these but this reminded me more of a jazz club in Paris. They had an eight person band playing Puerto Rican and Cuban inspired music. Anyway I knew about 20 people that I had randomly run into from all different aspects of my life. Some people from different yoga studios, a Capoeira teacher, people I know from cycling, people I had met the night before at a Couch Surfing party. Just all kinds of different people.

There was even people I met at an Acro Yoga workshop that were from Ponce. You will see how the island is small. It is not that small but in a way everyone knows everyone. It is kind of cool.

Thanks guys. I will make sure to be careful while enjoying my stay...given everything works out :-)

Well the parties I refer to are like clubs and what not. I've been to noche san juan once and it was fun on my part but this was years ago I'm sure its changed.sadly enough.

I am officially unsubscribing from this thread. I hired an ADHD coach to get me organized and this is one of many time suckers. So hopefully people that started this past August can jump in and help out. I have been helping on this thread for a year and a half and it is time to move on. Good luck everyone.
