Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

Thas great news to hear!! I'm excited!! Have you been looking at places to rent?

Not yet, although I hear that rent is not expensive in PR. I know someone who will graduate this spring, I'll need to talk to her to see if she can transfer the lease to me. My only dilemma at this point is having to leave my babies back home for a full year. I hear the public schools teach mostly in Spanish and the English private schools are expensive, hence taking them with me is out of the question.sad.png

Hi, I was curious, are you from Texas? I am planning to attend next year 2012 and I have a 5 year old who will be 6 when I attend school and I am planning on bringing her with me, I found one school that is bilingual and reasonable, i think it was $186/mo for my daughter's age. Good luck to ya!

@designer-mommy,

I would like your input on financial aid. Did you have difficulty getting it?

:( I'm sorry to hear that.

I moved to TX about a year ago (hubby job transfer) I like it here so far. Unfortunately things are different down here career wise. My daughter is 6 years old and I have two boys 2 and 3. My 6 year old has a slight speech delay that is currently being remedied, can't afford to move her around too much or have her in a bilingual program at this point. $186/m does sound great though.

I live in Dallas, Tx (born and raise). I am currently an LVN and the reason why I am not attending this year, my husband and I are saving so we will be okay when I go to school next year. I am wanting to do some part time work as an LVN, but I am not fluent in Spanish yet and that probablyl would be a problem. But i am going to check it out as soon as I go down there. Trying to talk to someone at the board of nursing for Puerto Rico is crazy! They NEVER anser their phones. Maybe I will get chance to meet you if you decide to go to their program.

I am certain I will enroll unless I land a job that pays me a good salary downhere. I hope you don't wait too long, I have a feeling that if (or maybe I should say "when") word gets out about this program, they will get 30,000 applicantions each year. They will then be forced to be more selective and it will be more difficult for anyone to get in. You never know when some newscaster will mention how cheap and easy it is to get a nursing degree in PR! There are countless people in the States who have had to give up or defer their dream of joing the healthcare field because they could not get into a program. If only they knew about an "English" program in PR for under $10,000 a year....? All I am saying is don't wait too long because I have a feeling this opportunity won't last, maybe I am a pessimist. I know of other nursing program that had easy admission requirements but had to become more rigid once word got out. If I were you Txlvn44, I would apply this year, get admitted into the program and then request a deferrement for 2012. At least you 'd know that you spot is secured. Just a thought...smile.png

Thanks, I am going to go ahead and apply now. I never thought about it that way and you are right, soon as word gets out, everyone will be trying to apply!

I will be attending in the Fall if anyone wants to chat. This is my second time there :/ First time I couldn't afford another trimester but I've got money saved up just in case.

If you go there you can literally get accepted and sign up for nursing classes the same day. That's what I did but it was a lot easier since I had my lovely mother whose a native Puerto Rican and knows how to get things done. I'm glad their ADN program is now accredited.. I may just go to finish that and do a ADN-MSN or ADN-BSN online program back home!

I would like to hear from those of you that are already in the program to see how everything is working out so far. I know you guys are really really busy, but any input would be great! Thanks! :uhoh21:
