Interamerican's Accelerated program goes from August to the next May. So people starting in August 2010 will graduate with their BSN in May 2012. There is an option to take pediatrics in the summer and those people will have the choice to get their ADN in July 2011 I believe. I don't know anything about rolling admission, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are new classes starting most semesters.

Hi !

I 'm a current Umet nursing student ! Let me tell you I researched both extensively... I have friends who have attended both ...2 umet and 2 inter... the two from umet passed the nclex.. the other two failed... that being said I cannot judge on only 4 people but my friend from the inter had a 4.0 gpa at the inter and failed. The inter doesnt have individual sciences which for me was very important... Also if you eventually want to do graduate school you need them. I love the Umet they are really involved with their students. They even give Free pharmocology after class sessions to help you out... The english program is at Umet Bayamon . There is a way to do trimester but many are in the night time. The facilities are great ! I agree it's the best kep secret ! Credits are currently 180 per credit. It's a happy loving athmosphere and the practice in hospital is great :).:)

I don't doubt what you're saying Veroko, but there are people who fail the NCLEX that went to highly acclaimed schools too. I'm a student at La Inter, and yes, there are things that I wish they would do differently, and yes, there are a bunch of unorganized messes, but I believe that it is what you put into it. Sure, we need the instructors to be on point and show us what we have to do in our career as nurses, but students have to study hard for the NCLEX no matter what school they go to. Even if their instructors and schools are top notch, a little extra studying never hurt anyone. My biggest complaint with the school is that they're unorganized. Everything else I can deal with. The new Saunders NCLEX review book just came out, and I fully intend on getting it now and using it to study until I sit for the NCLEX, which is in at least 15 months. Many people say that book helped them get through nursing school with good grades.

Also, the BSN at our school just got re-accredited, and the ADN got initial accreditation, so they must be doing something right. A big part of the accreditation is based upon NCLEX pass rates, so maybe the two people you know that failed didn't take the initiative to study on their own. We are in a trimester program, so we pack a lot of info into a short time. If the professor says to read pages 1-20, and the chapter is 1-35, you had better read 1-35 if you want to pass the boards. This program isn't for people who just want to sail by, because they will fail the boards. It is for people who do a ton of work outside the classroom. I personally love the school, and the professors are awesome IMO

I agree on what your are saying about that you can go to a respectable university and fail the nclex. I understand.... I just gave my opinion on what was right for me. Every experience is different maybe for you the inter is the one you liked :) and am happy for that. In my particular case I only gave a few examples about one particular aspect but I have plenty more. I also study at night in The umet which is trimester too. I'm sure lots of independent study is involved when you want to pass the nclex ! In my case I love the metro! good luck on your studies and I didnt mean to offend you ...If you believe it you can do anything :) Either way like you said its accredited ! so something good should be happening

No, you didn't offend me! Sorry if I sounded harsh--I didn't mean to. That's what I hate about forums, you don't really "feel" what the person is saying because there is no body language, tone of voice, etc. I guess I'm just a bit frustrated at some "bad apples" in our program making us all look like idiots. I was completely ashamed of the way our Student Nurse Association represented us in the initiation ceremony last week, so maybe that's why I'm a bit cranky LOL It's obvious that those people are in this school solely because of the low GPA acceptance because they are just plain stupid. A girl behind me was calling ALL of the other groups' girls ugly, one had ugly shoes, the other one's hair was ugly...and this girl was like 300+ pounds so she had NO room to talk about someone's looks because she was FAR from perfect! Then some students were making fun of the DEAN for crying out loud because of the way she said the word "book" in English. Um...this is Puerto Rico...if they want perfect English, they can go back to the states. Then another guy was talking about how he was going to be a sucky nurse...so WHY are you here?! They said nursing is for people who have nothing else to do. Really? The last time I checked everyone said you can't do it for a decent paycheck, you have to have passion for it. Then another couple of students were giggling about how they thought the dean said "penis" when she was speaking Spanish. No, she did NOT say penis. UGHHHHHHHH! It makes me sad that idiots/morons like that are representing our nursing school when there are a ton of us who are mature, responsible people who are actually going to pass. Very sad indeed :crying2: I was sooooo about to say something to them, but I didn't want to lower myself to their immature level so I left it at that.

Anyway, rambling over LOL Sorry if I sounded like I was barking at you! That really wasn't my intention at all, I promise :heartbeat And good luck in your studies as well. I'm glad that UMET is a good fit for you :)

Hey DM don't worry about those idiots. Those dumb dumbs will never and I repeat NEVER!!!! pass the NCLEX and become nurses. Everyone seems to think nursing is easy and anyone can do it. Wrong!!!!! The only thing those idiots look at is how much money nurses make not the hard work required to become a nurse or work as a nurse. And the best thing is when I hear some of the idiots saying they are going to go into a nurse anesthetist program. LMAO!!!! Ha ha ha. How about making it out of Pharmacology first.HMMM????? Slowly but surely this program is going to weed people out who should not be here. And if by chance some actually make it through, the NCLEX will definitely take care of the ones who slipped through the cracks. I hope and wish everyone does well but some people are a joke, and an insult to me, the school, and nursing as a profession. Ok I am done. I just had to release a little frustration. LOL. Later.

Hey, how do you feel about the idiots in our Fundamentals and Pharmacology classes? Arghhhhhhhhhhh! I swear, I left school feeling like I wanted to bash my head against the wall. I seriously feel like I'm back in elementary school. Maybe it's different here in PR, but a college professor is a respected position in the states. They walk in the door and people shut up. God, not here. They have no respect for the professors. I swear, I couldn't be a professor here. There is no WAY I would put up with that. I'd tell them to take their immature rear ends out of my class and come back when they can show some respect. It's insane. They make me embarrassed to be part of the program. I want the best for everyone, but I can't wait for them to drop out of the program LOLLLLL I want to have a "normal" college experience.

Sorry, I had to release a little frustration too! I'm not looking forward to dealing with those morons again tonight.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this site and have been reading these posts for quite sometime. I am now interested in applying for the university in puerto rico for their BSN program. I am currently an LVN. I have completed the on-line application for the nursing program. What can I expect next? Designer-mommy I know you have a wealth of info since you are living and attending the school, you're awesome! I would like to hear from the others who are in the program about finances and how they are living while they are attending school and not working, not to be into anyone's personal business, just to get some information on how I should go about preparing to live there for at least the next 3 years. Do you get enough money from financial aid to cover all the expenses? or do you have get loans. Are you able to get a job in puerto rico while going to school? From reading this forum, I see that the nursing program classes are at night? Also I would really like to know can i endorse my lvn license there so maybe I can work as an LVN and since i am currently an LVN will I be considered for the ABSN? Any information will be very helpful. I applied for the aug 2011 program. It will my husband and I, no children, our children are ALL grown. I would like some info on the best affordable/safe area close to the campus and not so close to campus. From reading this forum, I know we will need a car. We already have vehicles, so what I was thinking about doing was maybe having our cars shipped or maybe just purchase a cheap vehicle while we are in puerto rico. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
