Hello to all. Maybe someone can help me. I'm a licensed RN from Puerto rico and living in NYC. Does anyone know if there is reciprocity in NYC? Thanks in advance.

I'm also a RN from PR I was in NYC now I moved to Florida let me know if u find out anything helpful but while I was in NYC I had to file for accreditation so that they could b should that I have the degree then take the NCLEX and that was it I could not work with my PR license until that was completed. Good Luck

Hello ladies, I have a friend of mine who is an LPN in PR and she asked me to help her in this situation (she was misguided at her job) this is here in New York...apparently PR has a contract with the state of Florida to grant licenses to LPN or RN's from PR...this is b/c New York will NOT just grant a license because PR does not have a contract with New York unfortunately...BUT my suggestion is this...Once you recieve your license from the state of Florida...you call NYSBON and request the License ENDORSEMENT form to "transer" your license from the state of FLORIDA (not PR) to NEW YORK...hopefully New York will not be so picky as far as going BACK to see where u originally got your INITIAL license...but as far as im concerned I originally got my PN license from the state of florida (miami)...but i went to school there...however the state of new york did not give me an issue getting my PN license transfered to New York...i did NOT have to take another test...I know they do do this though for those who have a license in PR..the State of New York will require you to retake the N-CLEX for your license unless u can transfer it from another state , for example Florida (which you can get a license granted from b/c PR has a contract with florida) hope i helped much ladies...any other questions please feel free to PM me I will be more than happy to help...by the way if you tranfer New York takes anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks to issue your license...XoXo:heartbeat

Good morning, just wanted to say that I have a PR license and also have NJ license. I have tried doing the endorsement thing with my NJ license for NY but when you fill out the form it asks you where you took your initial exam and once you write PR they reject it and say that you have to take the NCLEX. So I don't know how having a Florida license would be different.

Didn't you have to write the NCLEX to get your NJ license?

You need to be a licensed PR nurse for 2 years for FL. to accept your PR license. I am student nurse in PR and looked into this since I want to move to FL. when done with school. The FL. website is not clear but I contacted them and they emailed me the rules. This is allowed after a law was passed in FL. b/c of the shortage of nurses. FL. is the only state that allows you to work with PR license. You need NCLEX for rest of states.
