In a blow to the makers of losartan, amlodipine, lasix, hctz, Januvia, Novolog, metformin, simvastatin (to name just a few), "[t]wo of the country’s leading medical groups on Monday issued a call to arms against the soda industry, urging legislators and policymakers to embrace taxes, warning labels and advertising restrictions to deter young people from consuming the sugary beverages that are increasingly linked to the nation’s crisis of obesity and chronic disease."

"[T]he American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association issued a set of bold policy recommendations they say are necessary to stem the epidemic of Type 2 diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and other diet-related illnesses responsible for tens of thousands of premature deaths and billions of dollars in annual health care costs."

I used to drink the equivalent of six cans of Coke a day. Then I switched to diet Coke with no benefit to my health. Then 2 1/2 years ago I suddenly quit drinking soda of all types and have never gone back to it. My blood glucose normalized and I got to come off meds for DM II. I lost weight too. I'm so glad I broke the soda habit, I don't even miss it except I occasionally use it as a mixer. But never do I grab a can or bottle of Coke and just drink it...ugh.

I've drank my share of sodas back in my teens and college days as well. Used to drink can after can like yourself on top of energy drinks too. I didn't necessarily kick the habit out completely, but I definitely have more healthy choices now that I got into weight lifting and meal prepping. I do enjoy my occasionally Dr. Pepper here and there as well as my mocha espresso from Starbucks...wait I also still drink my energy drink but only at work! Guess I'm far off from kicking the habit eh? Anyways, everything is OK as long as it's in moderation whether it's a soda, orange juice, donuts, etc etc in combination with a health lifestyle of diet and exercise. I would never give up my Dr. Pepper though, ever hehe
