Ptec April 2012 online class

U.S.A. Florida

I'm trying to find people that have started the process for the April 2012 class or anyone thats enrolled into the online class.I've already take my tabe and now studying for the teas.

Thank you Annie. These are things that I am more interested in hearing. I have been considering pTec for awhile. I am finishing my degree in business admin and have done it successfully online (although I do have 4 classes over the next 2 semesters that I am forced to take in class). And nursing is already difficult so that plus online you would need a strong mentor/professor session often.

I attended the seminar last Wednesday and got more info.So far I have most of my packet done all I have left is the background check and teas test on Wednesday. I hope I get in, there was over 200 people there, but there are two traditional and one online.I'm so nervous to take the teas :/

Just wanted to bump this thread. ;) My husband applied for the online class.

Did anyone get a response letter back yet???

Like one of the previous posters, I am in the online program. If you have the option to attend elsewhere, I would take it. There is no leadership and you're lucky if the instructor answers your questions within a week after you ask. They do NOT have their act together at all.

Re: the TEAS it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. If you did 12.9 on TABE you'll do all right on math and reading. Sciene is best to know a little bit about chem, bio, physics. There are questions from every branch.

I hope it is not too late for those of you who are thinking of moving to Galen. I graduated from Ptec LPN online program back in June 2011. My class mates and myself felt the exact same as you. It is hard because you are teaching yourself. You are left to learn without much help.

However I would hold on. You only have a few months in the program. The end is mostly clinicals and you learn so much then. If you apply yourself and try to learn. My class out of 32 have had 30 students pass the NCLEX and are LPN's. It is much cheaper than Galen or any of the other private colleges.

It is hard to find a job right out of nursing school. I am only prn and have been since October and have only worked maybe 10 times. Now that I have some exp. it might be easier for me to find a job but at first no one wanted to hire me. They all wanted a year or more of exp. With the amount of loan money you are going to have to pay off at a private college it is going to get much more stressful if you cannot find a job right away. Not saying you wont find a job just saying it took me a long time.

I felt thru the entire Ptec program that I was not learning, I felt lost most of the time, and really thought I was going to fail my ATI and never pass the NCLEX. But when I passed the ATI I felt better like I knew more than I thought I did. Same with the NCLEX. What you learn in class is just the base. You will learn much more out in the real world. Hang in there if you can. It is worth it to me not to have loans to pay off and the money I make can go to other bills or things I want.

Also talking to those who went to Galen some of the felt the same as I did. So you might not be getting what you pay for just because you pay more. Everyone of Galen students I talked to (not too many maybe 5) who work were I work wish they went to Ptec because side by side you cannot tell who went to Galen or who went to Ptec. We are both knowledgeable but Ptec students just paid less. In any nursing program I think you are going to be expected to learn more on your own. Also if anyone wants to send me a message about teachers, I can let you know what ones were most helpful.

Good luck everyone.

I tried 3 times to get into the nursing programs at PTEC. I have top test scores on the TABE and TEAS both, so that's absolutely not the problem. The problem is that there's just too many other people trying to get in too. At the last mandatory orientation at PTEC that I went to, there were just over 600 people there.. competing for 24 seats that were about to open up in the online nursing program. Talk about lousy odds.. After the 3rd try and not getting in, I said the heck with it and went to ITT Tech St Pete and signed up for their new ADN nursing program. It's only partly online but classroom time is only 2 days a week. I can live with that. Starting my second semester on March 20 and loving it. I don't care that it's expensive, and it is.. what I care about is that in 2 years I will be sitting for my RN exam, NOT just LPN. If it was just LPN I wouldn't have done it. I consider it an investment in me. I plan to continue with my BSN there (entirely online) once I'm done with my ADN.

I am currently in the day program at Ptec and at times it is a little unorganized, but you get what you pay for. This program is so much less $$ than any other program that I can stand a little chaos. As far as getting accepted, I got 12.9 on the TABE, and I did OK on the TEAS, nothing crazy high. I think I had a total of 4 or 5 "points" to get in, I went to orientation and felt the exact same way. I never thought I would get it. One of the biggest things to make sure you do is have your application 100% PERFECT. In the correct order, with everything they ask for. I even included some extra things at the back like some awards or recognitions. You never know what could help.

The beginning was very difficult. We sometimes had 3 tests a week. We are almost seniors now (2 weeks!) and it has slowed down. I sometimes feel that I am unsure of things I should know, but at clinicals I always come to the conclusion that I know more than I think I do. The teachers are pretty good, mine are anyway. We have a total of 5 tests, plus the ATI tests left! Then it is all clinicals until November.

They will tell you that some sections are very hard and that you loose people, our class has not lost one person due to academics. The section the say they loose the most people on is Nutrition. It is really easy! We did a poster-board/presentation on a diet, and then we had a test. They will try to scare you! Just read the chapters and you will honestly be fine!

If you have any questions I would be more than happy to help.
