Psychiatric Travel Nursing??

Are there opportunities for travel nursing within the psychiatric specialty?

Specializes in psych, medical, drug rehab.
I'm a psych nurse in NC right now, and there are DEFINITELY problems. It will probably start to get better soon, however, because the state is getting more interested in finding and funding mid-level programs (ie 7-10 days inpatient with outpatient follow-up). I think the big thing in NC is how easy it is to get someone committed!

I worked down there as well for a bit as a travel nurse and you are correct. It is way TOO easy to have someone commited.

Quite concerning. I am back in NY state now and trust me there is a whole other set of issues and concerns here. But the above is not one of them.

I am glad to see there are psych travel nursing jobs. But I also see these are old posts so I hope they are still available.

However, I am shocked to see anyone say it is easy to be commited in NC. It is sooooo hard to commit anyone I can't imagine any perception of it being easy. I have had psychotic patients threatening someone and being exact to the threat and still can't get the commitment. The state hospitals won't do the 2nd Psych assessment. So many times I have completed the first Psych assessment only to have the second decline the commitment....or both psych assessments have been done but the magistrate turns it down. There are soooo many steps to a commitment that even a person who is harmful to self and others can't get commited. It is even difficult get a person who is voluntary into a psych facility. Many have to wait in the ER for days until a bed is made available. So yes, the NC mental health system is a mess but because it is extremely difficult to get a person the help they need not because of it being too easy.

Does anyone have updated information on Psych travel nursing...especially Nurse Practitioner?

Thank you

Hi:

I'm a Psych Travel RN. Currently in San Diego, CA. Very expensive place to be a traveler. I'll be done here in Sept., ready to move on. I've been here almost 5 months. Homesick. Psych travel jobs are not as plentiful as other specialties, but they are out there. You can private me for more info.
