Hi, I'm going through my mental health rotation right now and I've seen references in our reading to DSM-IV-TR Axis I and II and III etc... and am trying to get some clarification as to how this classification system works and what conditions fall under each Axis etc.. Does someone know a website I can go to that would provide me with this kind of information?

This material seems to be getting a little harder since the APA is clamping down somewhat on their material.

However, you may want to try this:

Axis I: the mental health diagnosis(es)

Axis II: any personality disorder diagnosis(es)

Axis III: medical problems (diabetes, GERD, etc) any medical/physical problem that may have any impact on the mental health issues

Axis IV: issues in current life situation that impacts mental health issues (problems with primary support; economic/vocational/education issues

Axis V: Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) ranges from 0 (dead or no information to provide) to 100 (not many of us are even close) there is a section in the DSM-IV that explains each number for the GAF.

hope this helps
