Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Published

Hi there,

I am looking to begin gradute school and would like to become a Psych NP. I have been a Medical/Surgical/Telemetry RN for 1 year. I graduated with my BSN in December 2011. I am having a rather difficult time finding the basics of how to begin pursuing this goal. Where do I start? Do I need to begin working in a psychiatric unit before applying? I live in the Seattle, WA area and have only found one program at Seattle University- however I am willing to relocate if need. ANY and ALL feedback is greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thank you in advance :)

I am also looking into psych np programs. I am currently a psych RN and am looking at online programs. Slu has a great one but man is it expensive! As far as I have seen while researching, a lot of schools do want you to have a year of psych experience but not all of them. Just keep searching school websites and look at their admission requirements!
