Psych unit scrubs color - (Getting deeper into discussion of blue)

I am starting my 1st job as a nurse on an adult in-patient psych unit in December.

There is no policy what color scrubs I wear.

I've always looked forward to getting my Ciel Blues after graduation, but I'm wondering if anyone has opinions if Navy or Hunter would be less surgical looking and a better choice. I really want my Ciel though.

I've seen posts here that discuss Green and Blue being more soothing, but I'm wondering if Ciel Blue (sky blue like many nurses wear) fits into that category of blue or if I should go Navy.

I am a big guy, 6'4" and may appear intimidating.

I can also wear business casual and I may, but for days I need to fly out of the house, I want a scrubs option too.

I don't want to take stains into consideration in my case. I know Navy would be better, but I really want those Ciel and only thing that would get me off of that is you pro's telling me Navy would be better.

I generally prefer solid colors in psych, lest a very psychotic patient see something in a scrub's pattern that really isn't there...it has happened to a former coworker of mine. But there's no mandate in my facility against patterned scrubs except that they must be a tasteful pattern...and unofficially, wear scrubs with the logo of any the local sports team's rivals with caution.

Seriously, if there is no policy dictating what color scrubs you must wear, wear your Ciel and be happy :) Don't worry or read too much into it. I see nurses in all sorts of colors in psych--most tend to wear their favorites.

I've worn solid and patterned scrubs- never been an issue before with any patient population on the locked inpatient psych units. I guess that's up to you to decide. Never had a patient have an issue with it. I think green is calming- our hospital color is green. If you don't want to do hunter green you could try like a sage green.

Here in Sweden in my part of the country we where only white scrubs though we are part of the hospital. They say that white is the best color to wear because it has the least possability for associations. Means even our color on the walls is white.

I work on an acute inpatient child/adolescent unit. We are not permitted to wear scrubs - our dress code is business casual. Many of us have a personal preference of black, which is what I usually wear.

we are required to wear solid color no patterns and anything but green as green is for doctors only.
