Hi. Anyone work on an inpatient psych unit that utilizes primary nursing? If so how does the unit function?

I'm unsure what you mean by primary nursing...please help unconfuse the always-confused-me!
Primary care as in each nurse does their own meds and keeps their own patients. We are moving from having a med nurse to doing primary care and I was wondering if there was a model that somebody could share. Team meetings might be tricky. Just wondering if anyone is doing that on their psych unit.

We did that years ago at another hospital. Each pt had a primary &. Secondary RN.
That nurse would be responsible for the care plan, evaluating medication response, coordinating with SW & MD.
Worked pretty well, but requires more staff IIRC.

I kind of wish our facility would do that. I feel like you are able to get to know your patient's better if you are passing their meds as well.
