Providence Hospitals New Grads

Published

Did anybody apply to the position for BSN new grads for the Providence hospitals job fair for the epic implementation technician?

Sounds kinda fishy. Work for us in an clinical support manner..., six to nine months with a chance to be hired on permanently, oh and come to the job fair and enter to win a free tablet. the job description itsself sounds like you wont be getting any nursing experience at all in that time either.

I also got a phone call too, but as a new grad how worth it is this position? By the end of contract period with Providence, my one year since the day I got my RN license would be up, and would I not qualify as a new grad nurse then? I wonder if we can work as a new grad nurse while being the Epic Technician.. any inputs?

I am wonderfully excited by this opportunity and in no way view it as 'fishy'. This will provide an opportunity to network with all members of each of the five Southern California Providence hospitals (upper management and chief officers, not just unit directors). And getting a New Grad RN job is often more about who you know over what you know. Also, I am sure that being able to meet the decision makers in each of the units will provide a greater opportunity to select (and be selected) for the unit you would prefer to work...rather than accepting any unit that is being offered (as the most recent NG application for Providence said it was for tele units.)

I also spoke with friends who work at UCLA...the EPIC position at Providence was called "super-user" there. They said some of the super-users were so helpful and wonderful, they were all hired back as internal employees later; and they got to see which of the super-users were NOT helpful and just sat in the corner texting instead. They were never considered for jobs later.

The EPIC position will be a marvelous stepping stone into gaining employment within the Providence system, assuming that is where you ultimately want to be. If you are only settling for any New Grad position and think this will somehow upset your future goals, then then I strongly suggest you continue to bang on the doors and continue applying for each and every one of the bedside New Grad programs out there.

Has anyone heard from or gotten an interview with any of the Providence Hospitals New grad Program?

And does anyone know how long this process takes? Mine still says 'Under Consideration'.

So are we only allowed to attend the job fair if we get the phone interview? Or is it an open job fair? Someone's earlier post said after the interview she was now allowed to attend so I'm confused...

Although I did receive a phone call, my friend got an email "Thank you for registering online! You’ve been identified as an attendee for the Providence RN Job Fair on Saturday, August 24th, 2013, held at:..."

Although the job posting is no longer available for viewing, I think I recall the job posting wording implied that in order to attend the job fair it was tied into applying for the Epic Implementation position. I could definitely be wrong.

If I were an applicant who did not receive a call or an email, and my application still reads as "under consideration," I would 100% go to the job fair.

I got the call today and I actually didn't sign up for the job fair because I did not know it was required. But I was told that the interviews will be taking place there.

I'm kind of stuck in deciding if this position is worth it. I live in Northern California and I would have to go to SoCal for the interview. I do want a new grad RN position. I don't have any experience because I am a new grad and my other experience is not as helpful (or doesn't make me stand out to hospitals). Would this position help me (boost my resume?) if I don't get hired by them afterwards?

Did you ask if other recruiters will be present at the job fair? Could you use the opportunity to meet with the other SoCal hospital recruiters and try to land yourself a bedside position in their NG program instead of the Epic Implementation position?

I actually got the call today and spoke with the recruiter. She told me a little about myself (based on my resume) and what the job description entails. She also confirmed that that is a non - beside position and that it is a November - May position and requires time spent at two different 'Providence Hospitals'. She gave me the pay salary (which is not bad at all) as well as compared it to the position of the UCLA's 'super user' position.

Lastly she emphasized that this position is great the network with other unit managers and nurse managers within the Providence Systems to help get a job. I'm not quite sure if this position will help boost a resume as it is a non bedside, non nursing position. But I do believe this position is great to help network to prospective nurse managers. Anything is better than nothing.

Being a known face and an internal hire is beyond helpful...trust me on this one, I am speaking from the inside.

Question, does anyone have the address to where the interviews are going to be located on Saturday?
