Pros and Cons of the Vickie Milazzo Program

As cu76rn, I am a new member of Allnurses forum. I've gleaned so much info during the last hour! Thanks to all of you.

I have been looking into Vicki's CLNC program. I has the good fortune to meet her during the first year I was an RN. The hospital where I worked had her give a small group presentation to the new grads in my group who started out in critical care units. I've used her documentation advice throughout my career.

I'd love to hear the pros and cons from anyone having gone through Vicki's course. Is it worth the expense? Or, are there better programs out there? Please feel free to message me privately.

I'm laid up with a fractured ankle and the prognosis is that I won't be able to work bedside for 6 months (if all goes well). Needless to say, I need income. Accident happened 3 days after I'd left my last position and 2 days before I started my new position. Short Term disability policy last effective day 3 days before the accident. Go figure! :banghead:

It will likely take more than 6 months to get any work - after you get through the course. I would not depend on LNC work to make money while you are recuperating.

Yes, Vickie is a very dynamic woman and speaker. I agree.

I am sorry to hear about your injury and subsequent rehab. That has to be very frustrating for you.

What you need to do is seriously consider why you are choosing Legal Nurse Consulting as a career. Is it because you are injured and requiring months of rehabilitation and desiring something where you can make some quick money? If so, as RN1989 stated, that's probably not the best reason to choose LNC.

I will not lie to you, the career path can be very frustrating and difficult. After you receive the education, whether with Milazzo or other avenue(s), you will have to take some time and gear up your business, if independent. Then, start marketing to attorney-clients. You may or may not get business at first. Realistically, unless you already have clients ready and willing to give you cases, you will probably spend weeks to months getting your first case.

Seriously take some time and weigh the pros and cons of the career path. Speak with real-life LNCs, if you can. And, ask of us anything you wish. We are here to assist you.

If you have always been drawn to this career, then go for it now. Yes, you can be successful, but as I said, it takes a lot of hard work to do so.

Don't want to discourage you at all. Just trying to be honest and paint a picture of realism for you.

Again, if you have other specific questions, please do not hesitate to ask. And, check out the sticky threads (found at the top of this forum) about different educative avenues for the LNC.

Good luck with your decisions and may your rehabilitation be uneventful.

Thanks, all. I had to have another surgery on my ankle Aug. 20th. I really appreciate your replies and best wishes.

I'd thought about Legal Nurse Consulting off and on since I met Vicki in 1997. It is not something I just thought of doing because of the accident. The time line just got shortened d/t the accident.

I know very well how much time and effort it takes to launch a new business. I helped my husband start a small handy man business 5 years ago. Which he sold successfully 3 years ago. That experience was quite an education. :)

I'm still looking into my options, since it looks like I won't be back on my feet as soon as I thought. I go back to the surgeon Oct 16th to find out if the last surgery was successful. The post surgical xrays looked good. If the ankle has healed enough not to dislocate again, I'll have another surgery to remove the screw he put in on Aug. 20th. Then I might be able to put weight through it after that. Right now I'm feeling sorry for myself in addition to the frustration :cry:.

I have a whole new perspective of my patients now.

Welcome!! So sorry to hear re: your injury and ongoing surgeries. These things can certainly give us time to reflect on what course we really would prefer our life to proceed on. Prayers for a speedy recovery!

There are definitely other options to the Vickie M. course out there. I chose the LNC Stat home study course. It fit me best, both financially (allows me more funds for marketing and other start-up costs) and how the course was designed. I just completed it, and am finalizing my marketing package. So far I have found everyone there to be very supportive and timely. Though it is based in Fla., and the last couple of weeks things seemed a bit more hectic in their office than prior - hurricane preparations were reportedly influencing daily activities, so who can blame them!

Your previous business experiences should help you out - at least that is what I am finding. Many nurses do not have business exposure/background, and it can certainly be overwhelming. My business experience was limited, but has proven useful.

The Vickie Milazzo Program is probably not a good deal for most nurses. I have read about a lot of nurses who took this course and were never able to make any connections with legal firms that were willing to pay them for legal nurse consulting. Granted, some of the nurses who took her course will tell you that they are making a living as nurse consultants. But I would like to know exactly how many nurses have taken here course, and what percentage of them are actually working as nurse consultants? Personally, I think if you want to get involved in the nurse consultant business, you might look into a para legal program.
