Pros and Cons for CTOR

Hi all... :)

My OR has an opening for our CTOR, they are segregated in my OR.

I just would like some pros and cons before applying for this opening.

My background... 1.5 years scrub/circ in OR, and 1.5 years of floor nursing.

Thank you in adv to all

Generally they get paid more...... that's about it.

I like the changing environment in the general surgical realm. CT is OK but doing it day in and out would bore me.

Well, working exclusively in CTOR would let you get very familiar with the surgeons and procedures. On the other hand, you may lose some of your expertise in other specialties, and that may have a negative effect should you decide to work elsewhere.

Personally, I hate doing the same thing day after day. I need variety and love that I can be involved in elective hernia repairs, open fracture management, emergency crani, traumas, and pretty much every other specialty out there, all in one shift.
