program starts in Jan, looking to read ahead

hi people, I am looking to start preparing for first semester at Douglas College:

NURS 1100Nursing Practice I

NURS 1110Health I

NURS 1120Self and Others I

NURS 1130Professional Growth I

The online syllabus of right now does not give me any textbook titles.

As of right now, I am just doing some NCLEX and googling for answers to pass my time.

My advice to you would be to enjoy your free time before you start the program! You will miss having the opportunity to do things like read for fun, watch movies, or hang out with friends! But if you absolutely have to study something, look over A&P. You will be expected to know these things and they will teach you building off of these concepts, so it is good to have a firm grasp before you start. Good luck!

Everything this person said! Take some time to get your life in order. Clean out some closets and the like... Really. No one expects you to know all of this off the bat, and a firm grasp of A&P will speed you along.

Another idea- work some extra hours to get the Incredibly Easy series of books- they are very good- no matter if you're new, or reviewing :) They can break down info into much more manageable segments- sort of like "Nursing for Dummies" but not condescending :)

My advice is to not do anything. Enjoy your time before nursing school starts. Once you start you will be glad you did. You will have enough to read when class begins.

I started reading in my books during the summer before fall semester began and of course when we actually got into the books they didn't begin with Chapter 1. The assigned readings were scattered all throughout the book. So, unless you have an exact reading schedule on paper that is for the semester you are starting, then don't read anything.

Just enjoy your freedom! ;)

I definitely agree! The Incredibly Easy series are a valuable asset, whether you're a student or a nurse! I loved them in school and still love them as a new nurse!

I would take the time to enjoy what you enjoy doing, spend time with friends/family, etc because once you start school, you will quickly realize that you won't really have time to do much except to eat, sleep, and be a student nurse!
