  1. 130k Student debt for Entry MSN worth it?

Heck no I'll only be 55k in debt for my BSN AND post masters FNP. 130k seems insane!
  2. Long hair at the bedside

What about us part Italian nurses who no matter what we do, wax, cream, shave etc. We STILL have a stache? Sorry that you're paying THAT much attention to my upper lip...Shall we talk about my eyebrows next?
  3. Long hair at the bedside

  4. Long hair at the bedside

  5. Pre-Employment Physical Attire

Well I'm the odd one out here . I was 7 months pregnant during my last preemployment physical. I wore nice stretchy pants and a thermal long sleeved shirt. Sorry :)
  6. Good for you!! We all fall, but it's all about how we rise from the ashes. Keep rockin!!
  7. Three 12s vs Five 8s

Four 8 hour shifts a week has been the perfect schedule for me
  8. Coworker had a needle stick, HR is not supportive

Kel, I get where you are coming from. I do agree an infant is a smaller chance. However I have just heard horror stories of infected infants and I would be too darn paranoid to NOT report a stick. Just me I guess
  9. Continuing to connect the dots

This sounds like a good majority of new nurses out there. I know I felt that way for a long time. Time and experience will be your best teachers. Just keep up a good attitude, give it your best and be willing to learn. Your coworkers understand you'r...
  10. Coworker had a needle stick, HR is not supportive

Why on earth would you refuse treatment and bloodwork after a needle stick from anyone?! I've taken care of plenty of elderly with HIV and Hep C. No one is "safe" because of their age.
  11. Balancing Nursing and having kids

You just figure it out. You learn to adapt and where things aren't working you make changes. 6 to 2 works well for me now with little ones. I will have my FNP in February and hopefully will be on more of an 8 to 4 for when my kiddos are in school. I ...
  12. What do you do on weekends off?

Visit friends and extended family, QT with the family on Sunday, run errands, catch up on laundry and oh yeah mountains of homework lol :)
  13. Any Mormon/LDS nurses here? I need help?

Not sure if this has been mentioned but OP have you ever considered school nursing, clinical nursing or another speciality that would not require weekends?
  14. How did she/he get through nursing school?

Yes I've encountered a few nurses that I've questioned how the heck they got LPN or RN behind their name. Nursing itself has a way of eventually weeding these people out. They either cant keep a job from being incompetent or they lose their licenses....
  15. Does anyone still wear white shoes?

I haven't worn white shoes in years..nursing school! Lol. I rock the funky colored shoes :)
  16. Failed first pathophysiology exam

It's okay! I BOMBED my first anatomy exam. Ended up getting an A in the class. I've been a nurse for 5 years now. Dont let one test discourage you. Evaluate your weaknesses. Study a different way. Ask your professor for pointers. You'll do better nex...
  17. Miserable nurses

I think the nurse was unprofessional and should have not yelled at you in front of a patient/family. However I get that she could have been having a bad day. It happens. I'm sure I've been somewhat snappy when I've had difficult patients and a studen...
  18. Overtime

Depends on the day. I typically get out on time. If I stay over its typically 10 minutes due to last minute charting or chatting with the incoming shift. However I've had all hell break loose and still left within an hour of my shift ending.
  19. Practicality or Passion?

Sometimes the ones you think you want to be a part of aren't all they're cracked up to be
  20. Use of cellphones while at work

I prn at a facility that is "zero tolerance." I told them flat out I WOULD keep my phone in my pocket at all times. I WOULD NOT keep my phone in my locker. If my kids need me or are hurt, they come first, period. I've not been disciplined or spoken t...
  21. I've been in similar situations where the preceptor is overbearing to say the least. Stick up for yourself and hopefully your time with her will go quickly.
  22. Work during Nursing School

I'm in school full time for my FNP. I tried working 3 12s and was just EXHAUSTED. I currently work four 8 hour shifts a week and have been very happy. I try to pick up as many weekends I can so my week I can focus on clinicals, exams and school work....
  23. I've not heard one word of NANDA, NIC or NOC since graduating with my RN. Personally, I would have rather skipped that part in school and focused on more clinical things. I know they meant well, but it was useless to me on my career. I haven't even ...
  24. Help, nurse in distress!

Can we get a little more info on the problems specifically ? How are the patients in danger? Not doubting you, just curious as to what is so bad that you felt the need to report it to management 3 months in
  25. PRN vs Part time

I am prn at several places. I always get full time hours, however if I need to work part time a week for a doctor's appointment or exams in school, I have the freedom to do so. I love making my schedule to fit my life. However I di not get benefits f...
