  1. The bolded is why working outside of California terrifies me, baffles me and sounds so unsafe. And why do yall tolerate this constant putting your license in jeopardy?
  2. That mgr sounds as foolish as my old facility "All restraints (chem/mechanical) go through me." ?
  3. If they aren't taking your exams, paying your tuition or sitting in front of the NCLEX for you when the time comes, who needs them? I had a relatively solitary nursing school experience and it was better that way. May have been nice to have "friends" but that's not how the cookie crumbled... Believe in yourself, you've gotten this far ~ you can do it!
  4. Yes, be ware... No ratios means just that ~ no ratios...
  5. I don't know any pediatric nurses that have either one of these designations, but I just passed PED-BC. I just crammed like I was studying for NCLEX, but focused on infants through adolescence, and passed. I don't expect any financial gain, it was just a goal I had set for myself and I'm proud to put these initials behind my name.
  6. I stand by what I wrote. It is sad to me, that nurses cannot surmise on their own that different ethnicities may have markings that are not consistent with abuse. Yes that is sad that I can figure out "blushing/flushing" although I will never experience it because of the deepness of my skin tone, but there's nurses walking around reporting parents for their kid's Mongolian spots or bruising from coining... And they cannot ensure they are knowledgeable beyond their personal experiences. That is sad to me.
  7. This is sad that nurses don't know this. This is indicative of the deficit of cultural competence in American nursing... This is how certain groups get erroneously reported to child welfare associations. It never ceases to amaze me how dangerously ignorant some RNs can be, especially in areas that are predominantly monoracial/monoethnic.
  8. 2, Yes, you can be certified in both, although it may be redundant, as they may be considered interchangeable. You will just have to pay for both, both the initial certification and the recerts. 3. Both exams websites will direct you to materials that will prepare you for the exams
  9. If you have national certification, you don't worry about the individual states, however as a poster previously mentioned - you need a valid Registered Nursing license in the state that company requires... You need to tackle that first, because my state: California is notoriously slow.
  10. Thank you... I grow tired of people telling me what is or isn't racist. But don't let me ask someone to clearly enunciate, so I understand what is being said ~ I'm a bigger racist than David Duke. This is so exhausting and thank you for reiterating why working in NY sounds like a nightmare. Plus no mandated ratios... Sounds like hades
  11. Nurses outside of California are underpaid, but here I am grateful for my compensation and can't imagine working anywhere else.
  12. Goodness. That therapist needs some therapy and to mind their dingdarn bidness. They are probably jealous of the employment prospects you have (whether you are in the market or not). Better you than me, and solidifies why I work nights... In psych...
  13. I was an Executive Assistant in the goofy corporate world, longing for a sense of purpose. Fought off being an RN for years, and made myself miserable in the process. One day I had an epiphany that I wanted to help people in a meaningful way, and ordering overpriced lunches, booking travel and setting up mindless meetings was not the way... Additionally, I wanted a career where I could not be pushed out due to title, education or skill set, I.e. a receptionist or a clerk could do my precious assisting gig if that's what the job wanted. And no one had to be smart or talented, just manipulative and sneaky. So I became a nurse and went from MedSurg to Psych to Peds Psych and I love every minute of it!
  14. This year we all brought stuff. I brought the sides and dessert. It was nice and made the night go by faster. Times like that make me grateful to be at work on holidays.
  15. This is why I love CA... We have this wonderful thingy called "Kin care." The employer is precluded legally from demanding a reason for absence... When I call, I say "I'm calling Kincare" And If I get a newfool who doesn't know the rules, I then say "I have kin I must care for." LOL But yeah, never give a reason...
  16. I saw one at UC Riverside... I was just googling around...
  17. Perhaps. Sounds like something I would worry about as a student, but when I got in school, what others did didn't impact me at all... First lesson of being an RN, don't sweat stuff that doesn't impact you, or you'll be worrying about it all. People who aren't RNs worry about the NCLEX rate... RNs worry about patient care and ratios... The school I attended had a reputation, but guess what matters? I was the only one in my class (ADN) to get a $50+/hour new grad job at a level 2 trauma center... People failed and dropped out... didn't affect me in the least.
  18. Your cohort are not your friends. Get in/get out and take your NCLEX...
  19. 2 of my former cohort are the NSMs for Tele at Cal... Since it's a level 2 trauma center, serving the underserved/indigent population you need thick skin, good critical thinking and a sense of urgency... It aint no Providence, LOL.
  20. Either way, how does that impact your education what other people did?
  21. Is ELAC still on probation? that maybe the reason there is no information?
  22. THat is all programs within LACCD system. I have a good friend that graduated about a year behind me and said the program was kina on the horrible side. However, karma never takes a holiday because the same school that rejected me, needed this reject to certify their instructors in Cerner for clinicals in the hospital they used... The revenge was sweet to say the least. LOL No one else can take your exams or your NCLEX, so its really about what you put into it, not how many people on the net think favorably of your program.
  23. This is good that they hired you straight in, as an A item as opposed to an F item. That sounds like they will make you work whatever shift they want you to work... So if you want 1900-0730, they will give you the opposite... It's the county way! Welcome to the county
  24. speech 101 at any one of our local california community colleges should do the trick... Many are online at this point.
  25. Free standing psych facilities not on a hospital license have no ratios... Also try not to work non LPS facilities...
