I didn't get from your original post that the tracing was a problem, and as a scalp clip is not therapy I don't quite understand how your difference of opinion with the resident on whether to use one...
Did the use of the scalp clip make any difference in how the delivery was managed? If you disagree with labor and delivery management you need to use the chain of command.

I think you're very perceptive. RNs and doulas have very different jobs during labor and delivery, though there is some overlap- as different as an RNs and an OBs jobs. Just because you love one...

I think it's because the risk (real or perceived) of doing nothing and getting sued for negligence is higher than the real but small risk of a slightly preterm baby or complications from a c-section....
Note that the article is about coaching during second stage. It is not addressing labor support (which we often call "coaching") at all. There are plenty of studies about the utility of quality...

There may well be such a thing as familial PPCM, but what I said is there is no evidence that CMP in nonpregnant/non-postpartum family members is linked to a risk for PPCM.

"Cardiomyopathy" is a general descriptive term of a clinical condition; there are many causes. I can't find anything in the literature that suggests that family history of CMP in a nonpregnant...
I don't think that that kind of formula is very meaningful. I have four children, worked two jobs, took care of an aging parent, and earned straight A's in nursing school. Everyone in my class had...

I think this is another case of people having a strong opinion about what is healthiest/safest/lowest risk (e.g. breastfeeding; unmedicated birth), and people who choose to do otherwise calling it...

Our anesthesiologists always remove the epidural catheter in the OR. The patients either have Duramorph or are ordered for a PCA by the OB (it's the nurse's job to actually call the pain service to...
I handle it because I believe with all my heart that the mother, father and family need me. My own feelings, while strong, are not what it's about, and while I do allow myself to grieve (and even to...
It's so hard to take pride in what I do, to maintain my belief in the importance of nursing care, and to want to be my best when I and my fellow nurses are treated as nearly invisible servants by the...

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I know I need to do some internal "headspace" work which insulates me from the external chipping away that so gets to me. I think, as many of you have pointed...

It's a nurse's job to teach and promote healthy behaviors- whether that is teaching about the risks of cesarean section, the risks of smoking, the risks of drug use, or the risks of not breast...
I had a birth the other night that scared the daylights out of me. There was nothing terribly concerning about the labor other than it was very long. Baby looked good; pushing took one and a half...

I checked today, and baby is fine so that was a big relief. Mom had chorio so that could explain part of the baby's "transition difficulty". I also did some research which said that acute hypoxia at...
