  1. Successful Orientees Vs Unsuccessful Orientees

I've had a similar experience. Hired in at the same time as other graduates into a critical care unit but got moved to a telemetry floor after orientation. I had multiple preceptors (one who wasn't teaching me anything, one on day shift when I was wo...
  2. We perform "focused assessments" in my hospital (I work a telemetry floor) but I always start out with the ABCs.. Lung sounds, pulses, circulation (edema), etc... If they're post cath: groin site/ pedal pulses... It's all focused on what the general ...
  3. Meridian Community College

I graduated from the RN program there in May. LPNs are being phased out a lot in our area btw so that may be something to consider. Overall, I loved the school and they have great instructors. Good luck!
  4. Arterial sticks and analysis

I work in a unit where both RNs and RTs do ABG sticks. It's helpful during a code or RRT when a MD needs it and resp may be tied up bagging or doing compressions...
  5. Spice Spice Baby

I've seen a case result in pulmonary edema (drained 400 cc). Blew their LAD out and was left with EF ~10%. That one blew my mind
  6. I understand not wanting to feel like an insubordinate, but there are times you need to seek help from other more experienced nurses. Patient safety and care are the ultimate goals in our daily routines and if it's being sacrificed because of fear......
  7. I can totally understand where you coming from on this type of situation. I started in a critical care unit 3 months ago and have been on days orienting with a preceptor who doesn't like to teach and rarely even goes into the pt rooms with me unless ...
  8. RN role in Chest Tube insertion in the ER?

I've assisted another RN who made sure appropriate meds (lidocaine, etc.) was drawn up and available. My job was to hold pt arm up and support durning insertion... Probably one of the most painful procedures performed, no doubt....
  9. PVT: Question of Character?

And add "integrity" to the above post as well 👌🏼^^^
  10. PVT: Question of Character?

As one who has posted in another thread about using the trick, I feel as I should clarify... In my first attempt to get the info I wanted (God help me)... I entered CORRECT info. Shot número 2 (because I'm a trouble shooter by nature)... I entered ...
  11. 8/22 What I learned this week....

From what I was told, there had been previous fxs from a resuscitation attempt. Wasn't my pt, so I'm curious to find out what legality/paperwork had to be filed to cover that one.
  12. New grads in specialties without the basics

My choice of diving into specialty was the experience, considering I'm in my late 30s starting my career and have two children who will both have graduated and entered college soon (my youngest is a Freshman in HS). I hope to travel once I get a few ...
  13. 8/22 What I learned this week....

I've learned there is such thing as request for "Full code status with minimal to no chest compressions"... Yes. You read that correctly. 😕
  14. Why are the floor nurses so unwilling to teach?

New grad here so I'll chime in and be blunt... Some nurses may be seeing it as not getting paid to help you but the majority are focused on the primary reason they clocked in that day... PATIENT CARE!! Please don't see it as anything else besides th...
  15. Payment Declined PVT 2015 nclex-rn

Oh dear that's unfortunate... I stand corrected but it did happen in my situation in May.
  16. Payment Declined PVT 2015 nclex-rn

I used a valid CC number but invalid expiration date. Then tried it with invalid security code... All same pop up when I check after around 8 hours. Never heard of anyone who tested with me not have similar results. Hope it worked out for you!
  17. My advice is this.. No one gives a flip about your GPA and they won't post it on your degree!! I graduated from a tough ADN program at a community college where our day time enrollment went from 120 in first semester to 38 of us graduating at the end...
  18. Screwed Over by My School

Speaking from someone who recently graduated and has taken NCLEX, I have to urge you to try your best to cool down and dig your heels into the books! The stress is unbearable enough and while you might feel justified in being angry (I totally get it....
  19. Some people are too smart for nursing

Dudette10.. He's in a DO program in second year and they've just now begun some of the application part of diagnostics. First year was a lot of foundational of osteopathics, histology, gross anatomy... Now it's clinical sciences where they will have ...
  20. MA to RN

I was 37 when I graduated. Nope. Not too old
  21. Would you wait for Dr orders?

Seems my statement wasn't clear and only caused everyone to say how useless it would be. It was simply my observation of what clues could have used to determine the level of severity. But thanks for the input.
  22. Some people are too smart for nursing

Thought I would open some eyes... My fiancé is in med school. He has his bachelors in chemistry. He also graduated from an ADN program before going in. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA through med school pre-reqs. However, he is quick to tell anyone his ...
  23. Would you wait for Dr orders?

O2 sat anyone?? And as a new grad, it pains me to know it took the newbie or her preceptor that long to call the code themselves! 😁
  24. New grads in specialties without the basics

Being a newly licensed RN who was fortunate enough to be hired into a CCU, I have to say as daunting as the amount of info I absorb on a daily basis is.. It helps when your preceptor is receptive to questions and doesn't brush you off like "you shoul...
  25. What to expect the first quarter of Nursing School?!

Biggest challenge will be learning to take exams. Prepare for nothing like you've ever experienced as far as testing goes... You'll need to hone your critical thinking skills to survive the rest of med-surg content and school! Good luck!!
